I need to start preparing for my upcoming interview and am wondering if anyone knows which publications I should be reading to get caught up on current issues...besides this anything else I should be reading to prepare??

Thank you.

Go to pharmacyweek.com and read up on all the latest stuff there. Also, just keeping up with the headline news is helpful, i.e. stem cell research, plan B just went non-rx (behind the counter), etc.
Good luck 🙂:luck:

I like Pharmacy Today, which is the general newsmagazine of the APhA - should be pretty readable even for a pre-pharm student. Also, for quick updates I like Drug Topics.

Although some schools will ask for an essay about some current hot-button medical issue, others will ask completely off-the-wall questions designed to test the student's critical thinking and communication skills. For one school, I wrote an essay about whether pharmacies should sell tobacco products and was then called upon to defend my position in the interview.

It's important to be reasonably conversant in current issues - i.e., emergency contraception, pseudoephedrine regulation, Medicare D, or medication errors - but it might be more important to focus on one's motivations for choosing pharmacy and the contribution they'll make to the school and profession. The rest of the stuff can just be dealt with as it comes up.

So I'm not telling you not to seek out more information about issues, just don't get carried away with it.

Good luck!

The professor that interviewed me asked what was going on in the world at the time of my interview. Now, there is usually something drug-related going on at any given time, but that was not what he was looking for. Was I paying attention to things outside of pharmacy, or had I just read something pharmaceutical to bolster my chances of answering that kind of question?
Don't go out of the way to read something that you would otherwise not read.
