What to say to an adcom reviewing you app-pre-interview

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
1. Update them on what you are doing.

2. Ask them if they can suggest anything you should be doing to enhance your chances of getting into their school

3. Bring an unofficial transcript so they can go over it with you

4. Talk about your future plans, why you want to be a doctor, etc... Use this time to sell yourself early. Dress professionally and be yourself. relax and enjoy this one on one time with them

I think the poster meant pre-interview not during the interview...I'm assuming you are not suggesting setting up a meeting with an adcom member.... I too am debating whether to send updates.

Yup...I was thinking about sending out an email to the adcom....don't see it as hurting too much. Showing interest may help push me over the edge I am teetering on.

Why would you send out an e-mail to the adcom before you even interview? Or do you mean post-interview?

I would only send something if it was REALLY important or really made a big difference in your application. New grades probably won't do much of anything (unless you had a so-so GPA and had a 4.0 semester). Other things to consider sending : new publications/papers, big scholarships, etc.

Oh yeah, don't send an email... send a letter. It's more formal and shows you put a little more time into the effort.

I assumed you meant before you applied you wanted to meet with a dean of admissions to discuss your application, which is a great thing to do. The is what my above advice was for.

You can email the adcoms and update them on whatever you have been doing since you applied if you are really adding something. New grades, especially from science and math courses, are always something they should know about. You can also say that you are still interested in their school.
