What to wear for the interview(LADIES....HELP~!)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Slacks ( black) or shirt, with white or something not colorful for the top. No heels if you are tall (5'8 or taller) hun. However, suite coat and slacks are nice

thanks for the advice! btw, is that turtleneck shirt(gray not red) inappropriate!?!
should I just wear a white shirt? 😕

Is that all you're planning to wear for the top? It seems a little casual (like casual Friday material). I believe the general trend for ladies is a pantsuit or skirt suit, meaning a blazer with slacks or a skirt. Neutral colored (black or gray, possibly a dark blue or brown). Color isn't bad, but the color must be kept to the inside shirt. I wore a dark gray suit with black accents and a dark purple dress shirt and black kitten heels.

I also think the flats are fine, especially if you are going to do a lot of walking that day. However, I think it would be smart to bring both heels and flats to your interview (stow your flats in your purse and change prior to going on the school tour). That's what one girl did in my first interview and I thought it was a really smart idea.

I agree that the top mentioned is a little too casual. It'd be ok under a blazer/suit jacket but by itself I'd say no.

Suits aren't all that expensive- you can find decent ones at Kohls (and get yourself a sweet coupon they always seem to put out), places in the mall, etc.

eh, i don't know, i am too much of a fashionista lol not a fan of this shirt.

i would go with a blue, navy or black blazer, with a black or white button up under ( keep it casual)
and a pencil skirt or dressy pants that match the blazer, and if you're tall like they said above stick with the flats, if not (like me, i am 5 feet tall) i would go with some nice black heels (not hookerish)
and my biggest pet peeeeveeeee, panty lines! uhhhh! wear a thong lol
then a nice watch, simple stud (tiny) earings, a little perfume...don't shower in it, light make up, a black purse, not too big, not too small.........andddd that'll be it 😀

Hahahaha

And yes the second part I bolded is what I went with too. The idea is to look nice and professional and not be all flashy 👍

Not a big fan of the perfume idea. You never know if anyone around you is allergic to perfume and how sensitive they are to it.

do you think this is inappropriate?

what are some good stores to buy suits 😕

Yes, I think that is inappropriate. Especially with that backing. I think it would be wise to stick with the traditional suit... don't try to stand out with your outfit, stand out with the words that come out of your mouth.

Banana Republic has great suits. Of course, higher end stores like Nordstroms and Macy's will have suits aplenty. I personally bought my entire outfit (shoes and inside shirt included) at Dressbarn for a little over $200. It's decent quality and not too expensive. Invest in one suit once and you can wear it for any future occasion.

like i said, don't shower in it, some people have bad body odor (naturally) lol
i would rather smell good than smell like sweat and whatever else, also some people are smokers and they might want to smoke before the interview to calm their nerves down so in that case a perfume/cologne is a good idea, not too much like the arabs.

oh no no no no no lol
think about it, if you were the interviewer and a woman walked in with that dress on would you think she looked professional? this isn't a party, you want to look classy, simple, and professional, after all you're going to be a doctor 🙂
you want them to look at you and be like ( 🙂 ) not ( :naughty: (men) 😱 (women) )

I would recommend
Lord and Taylor, Nordstrom, Saks ( if you're not on a budget), forever 21 (you have to look and dig in there lol ) Charlotte russe, express, and my personallllll favorite is H&M, you'll find soooo much there, you just have to look, and i would recommend taking a friend with you or ask the people that work there.

also if you are an online shopper, i recommend asos.com they have really nice stuff.

To each ones own, but you never know how sensitive a persons nose can be to perfume and how allergic they can be. Bathe or not bathe yourself in it, perfume isn't unscented, you're spraying it on for a reason (so that you smell good to others) and it could be quite disastrous if your interviewer or the person sitting next to you starts sneezing uncontrollably because of the small hint of perfume. Maybe unlikely, but possible.

And I hate the smell of mustiness mixed in with the smell of perfume. I've had my fair share of sitting next to smelly individuals who think fragrance sprays are magical odor killers.

On my phone, please excuse typos

That dress would be wildly inappropriate. If you wear a skirt or dress, it needs to come past mid thigh even when sitting, do it really shouldn't be shorter than just an in our two above the knee when standing. Also, some people are old school and will expect that you wear nylons with a short or dress. You can get some really nice sheer ones that are almost impossible but just even it the skin tone on your legs.

Do not wear perfume! You never know how sensitive people are, and smell can be a big issue for some people. You could do a lightly screened lotion, but stay away from perfume.

For suits, I tried Macy's and JC Penny which only had ugly suits, Nordstrom which had really cheap yucky polyester suits and REALLY expensive nice suits, Express which only had separates that were too informal, and Ann Taylor which was a let down.

I ended up at Banana Republic and I got a wool suit for 40% off the normal price of $300. I think right now they have black and red, but don't go with red hahah. Anyway the jacket is a flattering but professional fit, and they have a few fits for pants. The Martin fit is really nice, and the Jackson curvy was completely awful on me, so try on multiple styles. They also have the suit skirts as well, and they match and are the appropriate length.

Basically, here's what I thought: There are some trendy, cute suits that I would personally prefer to wear. In any other business setting, I probably would. However, for this situation where you might have very old-fashioned interviewers, it's best to just play it safe. You want to be remembered for YOU, not your outfit. The best kind of outfit for this kind of occasion, in my opinion, doesn't leave much of an impression either way--it's just kind of a neutral. Plus, seriously, let's be honest--if you have a nice body, it will show even in a modest pantsuit. Be modest, polished, and professional. Trendy is fun, but not appropriate for this kind of situation. If there is a CHANCE it could be inappropriate, I wouldn't go with it. 🙂

If price isn't a huge issue for you, Theory sells really nice suits for women. They have very clean, modern lines and I would imagine look good on almost anyone. Plus the material they use is a wool blend, which means less wrinkling.
