i ask my orthodontist if i could shadow him for a few hours,
he said that i can come in for 2-3 hours for how every many days i choose,
this is kinda a silly question but...
whats the "dress code" for shadowing?..i didnt get a chance to notice what my orthodontist was wearing (he had a white lab coat on)
should i wear a tucked in shirt and tie?
or will cargos and a polo suffice?

I would go the first day in a shirt and tie, and then ask the ortho what he would prefer you to wear. If the office dress code is polo shirt and slacks then he might say that. Some like shadowers to wear a shirt and tie though.

there is no dress code when shadowing a dentist, unless your dentist tell you so, however, try to be as a professional as you could, a dress shirt and pants are good....Im not sure of this but the dentist you shadow should provide you with a white coat ( I got my bio lab coat 😀 when I shadowed my dentist )

I would wear a shirt/tie/slacks. If need be, you can remove the tie so that you're not dressed "better" than him. My dentist gave me some blue scrubs to wear so that I would fit in better. Your guy probably has some extra lab coats.

I wasn't sure either, and I was just planning on wearing something nice...but then I called the dentist anyway and asked and he said he preferred scrubs, which was a huge relief! Just ask...some dentists, like mine, may prefer if you blend in with the rest of the office so you don't look like a weirdo in fancy clothes hovering over the patients

I'd be careful about dressing up too much, it could put some patients off - I've heard of people wearing suits! Call the dentist and ask what they'd prefer you to wear, I know many dentists who just wear scrubs, and depending on the situation, possibly ask if you could do the same. The dentists I shadowed actually preferred this. Good thing I still had my scrubs from my assisting days. And another plus for scrubs, they are like the most comfortable clothing ever! =D haha

call and ask...I've shadowed four different dentists and I was told to wear scrubs for all of them.

scrubs. they are cheap and easy..oh and comfy! Put your hair back in a pony, no jewelry, and clean tennis shoes. That's what I do.

My dentist was fine with a shirt, tie, and pants.

wearing scrubs may be best.

try to avoid wearing jeans, flip-flops, etc.

i wore slacks...tennis shoes/dress shoes..and a tuck in shirt (polo or poplin)

just ask...that'll clear up any concerns you might have

dress shirt + khakis, no tie.. can't go wrong with that

The general rule is that it's better to be overdressed than underdressed.

Also, I'd try to fit in with the environment of the clinic. If it's some ghetto ass family dentistry, khakis and polo would suffice. If it's an upscale orthodontic clinic with uppity atmosphere, you should wear a tie.

Let me know how that custom-fit tuxedo works during extractions. I'm sure you'll look fantastic.

business casual. I think a tie is a bit over the top, I mean you dont want to seem more professional than the orthodontist. Polo / dress shirt and slacks / dress pants with dress shoes should be good.
