Hey,

I may be alone on this one, but prelim programs seem to be dragging a bit in terms of getting invites out. I figure medicine is less competitive than gas, and I am alright on that front. Have any of you other fine applicants had similar experiences? I called a few programs and they said they are still reviewing many applicants. Any thoughts, ideas, opinions?

Thanks, and hope all is going well.

Transitional offers are trickling in too. Medicine may be less competitve than gas (i dunno) but I think prelim and transitional is competitive b/c we are competing against students going into Radiology, Derm etc..Ive got 4 transitional offers so far one rejection

The only rejection I've gotten so far came from BW prelim medicine. Funny because I'm interviewing there for gas. 😱

I figured since I am a good enough candidate to get a gas interview there, I would have no problems with medicine...

guess not

docstrange is right. Prelim spots are extremely competitive, especially in desirable locations. There are few spots available for us, and rads, derm, etc. who are usually competitive applicants. So in other words there are a lot of highly competitive applicants for a limited number of spots. I've been told this by med pd's on my prelim interviews.

Called up a small transitional program in Chicago today, said they have 535 applicants for 7 spots. Its a little competitive these days.

what happens if you match for anesthesia but don't match for prelim/transitional?

Scramble for prelim spot. Won't be too bad, but odds are you will end up doing surgery or IM. However it may be in less than desirable locale. It is only a year though.😎

chicamedica, i suppose you'd have to scramble for a prelim/transitional spot.

gaseous, i got the same thing from UCSF and UCLA. *shrug*
