What was your biggest fluff class that counted in your BCPM?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Time to register for Geology and Astronomy 😀
I saw a list of all the eligible BCPM classes one time on here. Does anyone still have that?

Intro bio. I'd taken SO MUCH BIO in high school, and I got a 5 on the AP test, but having the AP count instead of intro bio is a huge pain in the ass at my school (in that each time I wanted to take a class with intro bio as a prereq, I'd have to get paperwork signed by the prof and my dean. Every single semester). It was worth it in the end, and made my first two semesters of undergrad just a little easier.

Well after this semester it will be Astronomy, but obviously that didn't help me for my app...

I'd say probably the easiest was Calc I that I took at the CC senior year of HS. As for easiest at my home school, probably Linear Algebra (math minor), because for some reason they delve into a lot of Linear in Differential Equations, so it was basically all stuff I'd seen just 2 months ago.

But somehow, I doubt that helps you 😳

Geology. 😀

heads up in GEO101 guys. My lady is a TA...and she grades hard on purpose. They really dont like it when students think its going to be an easy science course. GEO is a "hard science" and the class can be too.

Evolutionary Mechanisms, no doubt about it. The professor told us on the first day that he graded very leniently, and he wasn't kidding.

Eco Evo Bio... I became friends with the professor by the end, and she told everyone that there would be no plusses and minuses given, but she gave me an A+😎

Tutoring in Bio... I got A's just for going to lecture and explaining the above mentioned class...

Chem Tutoring... the same except it was chem...

Research... It is nice...A's for not too much work...

definitely research.

as long as you do the work you get an A.

after that it would have to be honors analytical chemistry I took in freshman year. IFAIK 80% of the class received A's. The tests were hard and the labs were tedious but we all got A's in the end.

organic chemistry 2

Gen Chem II, had all the old tests 😀

Gotta agree with research... I have no idea how you would get med anthro to count and I am pretty sure it wouldn't ever anymore. Mine surely didn't.

Chemistry of Life. I still remember finishing one of the "tests" in about 30 seconds. 10 questions, fill in the blank and there were professor notes that covered everything we needed to know. You could skim them for 20 minutes and kill the class.

is astronomy really a BCPM course? I got an A in an astrophysics course, it was listed as Ay1, So it is under the astonomy/astrophysics department. Will it be calculated as a science course as part of my BCPM gpa??? I'd be really happy if it were, cuz its obviously a science course, mainly just astro stuff and a lot of physics in it. Thanks

Medical Spanish....had nothing to do with science..No idea why they counted it as BCPM.

Geography 131 and Geography 132... At the time, I was majoring in business and I took these classes to fulfill my natural science requirement. I wish I had taken the biology or chemistry sequence now, seeing as I'm a year behind in those classes.

no joke??? what was the course title?? im wondering which category in that list thats always posted what it falls under. i was planning to take this course soon and its BCPM eligiblity is icing on the cake...

It was titled Medical spanish like biol-4XX or something. It really didnt matter if it was BCPM or Non for me, cause bother are almost the same for me...I just thought it was weird.

ah you're lucky cause i think they just saw the "biol" and counted it like a biology class. down here its registered as a spanish (SPAN) class. ugh 🙁

Plus the title had the word "Medical" in it. Those AMCAS verifiers are not exactly geniuses.

Unfortunately, that can work against you as well. I have an MBA with honors (Dean's List every semester) from a school that grades H/HP/P/LP/F (Honors, High Pass, Pass, Low Pass and Fail). AMCAS's own grade conversion chart considers this to be an ABCD system, but the person who verified my app somehow decided that all the grades were Pass/Fail. (Didn't they think it was a little strange that a school that was all Pass/Fail gave out honors and bothered to have a dean's list?)

If you are at a large state school PLEASE take advantage of all the different lower level courses they offer in all departments.

go take statistics and "neuroscience" courses in the PSYCHOLOGY AND SOCIOLOGY departments!! I took a statistics class from the sociology department and a "biopsychology" course from the psychology department and they both went to my BCPM. Even though the course codes had PSYCH and SOC in front of them--they still accepted it when they verified my app.

take some really lower level physics classes designed as general requirements for massive amounts of clueless freshman. I took an "astronomy" course like this--there was literally no math involved. but they are still technically physics classes.

I mean literally I could just throw some of these courses into my schedule. They took pretty much no time and effort to get an A...and they can help your BCPM.

at my school, there were upper and lower levels of pretty much everything--like o-chem, micro, physics, etc.

I disagree Nikki...I say make As in classes that are actually worthwhile and/or interesting to you.

oh i thought someone asked what was the best way to fluff the bcpm? that's how i did it! i just took a whole crapload of classes in general. guess i couldn't expect all of them to teach me the meaning of life.

Lol..I guess.

haha "fluff" classes are not exactly so at my U..
I took Astronomy and got an A but I had to do a **** load of work for it... i took it boost my bcpm but it was more work then my orgo 1 class :S
