We've had the least favorite class thread -- nothing like bashing ochem and physics : )

What has your favorite class been? Favorite pre-req?

I'll go...

Favorite general class: communications - public speaking. We had to give protest speeches in the main campus square for the final, lots of fun!

Favorite pre-req: ochem lab! Like cooking, but less tasty.

Favorite class(es): Stem cell biology, Genetics, The Making of Modern Science (his of sci), Animal Physiology Experimentation .... ahh ... wayyyyy too many to chose just one (and I thought I'd stop listing them)

Fav Pre-req: Genetics!

Favorite pre-req: Animal Physiology. It was hard and I only got a B in it, but it was still fun and the teacher was a hoot. I also had an absolutely extraordinary prof for o-chem who nearly inspired me to switch to a chem major even while his class was eating my brain, haha.

Favorite classes (too many to list in paragraph form):

Biology and Society: amazing prof, really interesting topic - we covered everything from evolution to genetically modified organisms and eugenics

Ecology: yay field trips to the coast!

Vertebrates: Ecology, Evolution, and Diversity: more field trips, and tons of dissections :-D

Creative Fiction Writing: Short Story -- kinda stretched this one a bit, turning in 20-page stories, haha...

Figure Drawing: yay for FINALLY taking an art class for the first time, despite being the president of the art club XD

Ornithology: birdsbirdsbirdsbirds I am now obsessed with knowing birds. I illustrated a flashcard for every single species (over 200) that I had to know... yay art and biology! :-D

Animal Adhesion: a special topics class where I studied the adhesive properties of Madagascar hissing cockroaches and gave a 45-minute presentation on frog tongues. That rocked.

Good times!

Favorite general class: Mammology and thus my research on bats!

Favorite Pre-req: Microbiology (i loved learning about all the little bacteria, viruses, and parasites!) Even though i sometimes got sick from looking in the microscope too long 😛

General - British History 1350-1700.. So fun and different and I had a GREAT prof. Reproduction of Domestic Animals... Just the BOMB.

Prereq - Animal Nutrition, and then Ochem2. 🙂

I loved genetics because I had an awesome prof! 👍

Favorite prereqs: tied between zoology- love dissecting- and microbiology

I've been lucky to have two awesome bio classes in a row. Last semester I took Microbiology. It was tough, and prior to curving the grade I think the class average was in the low 70s (including several pre-med and pre-vet students), but after scaling the grades I came out with an A. This semester I'm taking Animal Parasitology, and my professor is amazing. The man is a genius, and possibly the most interesting lecturer I've ever had. This evening he showed us slides of when he went to Ghana in the late 70s (I think) to test village children for urinary schistosomiasis. Its fascinating what all he has done. And the labs are a blast... at least they are a blast after the protozoan section.

Pre-req: Akwardly enough, Cell biology (great teacher) and biochemistry (hilarious teacher)

Favorite class in general: Domestic animal dissection and TA'ing (is that a word?)

Favorite class(es): developmental biology (amazing prof, super fun class, fascinating subject matter), ochem (drawing out mechanisms never gets old...ever), micro (i love bacteria...enough said), biochem I (yay metabolism!), and revisiting the reformation (studying something COMPLETELY unrelated to science with two of my favorite professors!)

Favorite class: Racquetball! ....doesn't sound very studious, but it was my favorite 🙂
I also enjoyed my Calculus class and History

Favorite pre-req: Micro, Biochem, and Physics

Favorite Classes: Symbolic Logic (I seriously did logic proofs for fun even after the class), Animal Behavior, and Philosophy of Existence
I'm also very excited to be taking Conservation Biology next Fall!

Favorite Pre-Reqs: Genetics and, oddly enough, Statistics/Biostatistics

Favorite pre-req: Medical Bacteriology! Awesome class...other favorites are the ochem's and biochem's, I love how they're somewhat logical so everything flows together nicely.

Favorite class: Immunology! I'm taking it right now and I absolutely love it! 😍

Favorite Classes: Symbolic Logic (I seriously did logic proofs for fun even after the class)

I'm not the only person in the world who did this! Yay! 😀

My favorite class and pre-req though was Genetics. I also really enjoyed Molecular Biology I and II, and this class required for my major called Quantitative Biological Methods. In fact I liked that class so much that I was a TA for it after I took it. 🙂

Favorite class: Ethology. It is such a fascinating subject! We even dissected a rap music video (Chingy, I think) by identifying all the underlying behavioral principles. At the most basic level, females advertise their fertility and males advertise their resources and fitness. I have to say...the whole experience further squashed the ideal of 'love' for me....🙄

Favorite pre-req: Animal Physiology. This was not an easy class by any means, but it was really very interesting, mostly in retrospect. We had a huge research project which involved reconstructing the major physiological systems and various characteristics of an extinct species. My partner and I chose the so-called saber-tooth "tiger" (S. fatalis) and I'm pretty sure we read just about every scientific publication that even mentioned this species...fun times!

Fav Class: it's a tie between Vertebrate Anatomy and Histology! Both had awesome profs, and I even went back and TA'ed for Anatomy!

Fav Pre-req: Genetics...though I can't really say why...

Organic Chemistry and Microbiology!

Principles of Meat Science and Steer-A-Year

Nothing like going to lab and making omelettes, sausage, steak, bbq....etc..

favorite class: fish and wildlife toxicology...most amazing class and professor ever!!

favorite prereq: i'll have to agree with lailanni...ochem lab, aside from when my spin bar wouldn't work and ruined my whole experiment...it was lots of fun and i was good at it 😀

My favorites were Animal Nutrition and O-chem as well. Did you have Moore and Sandberg, respectively, for those?

I also enjoyed, when I was in undergrad for real, Public Opinion, Campaigns and Elections, and Human Evolution.

Non-pre-req: tie between ancient philosophy (double-majored in philosophy, and I loved the Greeks) and ethology (the influence of environment and genetics on animal behavior).

In England, I took a class in hematology/immunohematology that was case-based and taught by a hematologist which was way cool.

Fave strict pre-req: probably zoology--taught by the same prof as ethology, it was really engaging and fun. 🙂 I imagine with another intructor it would've been boring memorization, but this was a great experience!

I think my favorite classes have been TV/film studies classes--I studied the history of cinema and the BBC while in the UK, and took a course on film representations of the Holocaust (a very depressing semester, but an engaging one, nonetheless!).

Favorite Vet tech Class: Anesthesiology

Favorite undergrad class: Herpetology. Love those herps. Teacher was awesome. Nothing like field trips in a dark swamp to hear frog mating calls!

My favorites were Animal Nutrition and O-chem as well. Did you have Moore and Sandberg, respectively, for those?

I did!!! Hahaha. I LOVED Dr. Sandberg - she actually made me go from HATING ochem to liking it a whole lot! Dr. Moore was good - I hated the lab, but loved the material. If I don't in this year, I might go for my nutrition masters/phd potentially..

That was my backup plan too!!!

Favorite pre-req: Microbiology

Favorite classes: Medical Biochemistry, Endocrinology, and Pathology - all 3 of these taught by the same awesome professor 😀

Pre-req: I really liked Microbiology and Animal Nutrition. O-chem wasn't too bad either once you got past allllll of those reactions!

All Classes: I had a film class which was a lot of fun and a companion animal course that was pretty good. And microbiology lab involved no lab reports, so that was a big plus. 😉

Fav pre-reqs: Microbiology, Physics, Statistics.

Fav non pre-reqs: all my Latin classes, British Women Writers, German Fairy Tales, Developmental Biology, Cell Biology, and Vertebrate Zoo!

Ohh..I forgot one- Medical Terminolgy!!

Now that sounds cool!

It was pretty cool! The prof was this cute, eccentric, old man who got excited easily and would randomly change the subject mid-sentence.

As far as the class goes, we (obviously) read a lot of fairy tales and talked about how they evolved, where they originated from, etc (not all were from Germany, despite the title of the class). It was harder then I thought though...for a test you had to remember for each fairly tale all the details and similarities/differences for each tale type. So for like Rumplestilskin you had to know all the details for 8+vairiations! For one tale type that doesn't sound so bad but there was probably 15-20 or so tale types per exam!

But it was very interesting all the same!
