What made you choose one school over another? Was it a nicer lab? Nicer people? Did the students seem happier?
Personally (being 2 years away from even applying) the only real criteria I have developed is how I am treated. Something that will decide whether I even bother applying to a school or not is how I am treated when and if I go to tour the school prior to applying (I'm planning on doing this with several of the schools I plan on attending- at very least IU, Pittsburg, Case, and Louisville).
So far I've toured two: UMKC and another school which I will not name lest I give a bad impression (I want everyone to draw their own conclusions).
I was VERY impressed with UMKC, they treated me very well when I went to visit them. I wasn't treated like an annoyance or burden, even though I am from out of state and still so early in my undergrad career. In fact the woman who showed me around made it a point to tell two of the professors that I was the first out-of-state first-year predental student that she had seen come in for a tour in quite some time. Nothing was off limits really, I got to see everything I had interest in seeing and was very impressed with the facilities. I was left in the care of a couple of 2nd year students for a few minutes by my tour guide (she was called away for something) and I was very impressed that once she was around the corner and I turned to them and asked "Tell me any bad things I should about this place," both of them laughed and had to think about it a moment. The only real complaints that they could come up with were about the city, and not the school.
I know it's a long shot for me to get admitted to UMKC, but I will definitely be at least applying.
Anyone else have any criteria to add? Comments?
