I was accepted for USA San Marcos fall dpt. I want to transfer campuses to Florida. When I asked him about it he said the best he could do is put me on a 10 person waitlist for Florida. He said if I don't come off waitlist, there's a chance I could have to reapply for January. It's up to Florida if they want to pass me straight through to January . So what to do?

1. Go to San Marcos, apply for campus transfer, go when Florida has spot
2. Accept 10 person wait list, risk not getting in for fall, and maybe get pushed through for January without any additional paperwork ( since they will see I was accepted at San Marcos)

I really have to make a decision this weekend, because I only have 7 days left to pay deposit.

Option #1. Your second choice is too risky.

Yea it seems that way. Problem is I talked to Steve jones( head of admissions) and he kinda got pissed because I was trying to get into Florida, yet I just got accepted to San Marcos and school hasn't even started. I'm afraid if I go over there, I may piss him off even more when I try to transfer to Florida after having only been in San Marcos for like a month and a half. Since he knows who I am now, maybe he's gonna reject my request. Then I'll be stuck in San Marcos . Also I would be taking someone else's seat, something else Steve was pissed about.

Maybe if I do option number 2 and tell him I don't want to ruin anyone else chance because of my poor decision, he'll be more apt to just shoe me in for January in Florida. I just don't want the head of admissions to do me wrong based on his negative first impression. Unless more people than him make transfer request decisions. Lol

Hey, W - congratulations on getting into San Marcos! Acceptance into PT school is pretty darn hard to come by, as we well know - that is a great accomplishment.
I say: enroll at San Marcos, kick back and relax the next few months, and see how it all unfolds. I think school will be hard enough without creating additional drama for yourself with the Florida agenda. As you pointed out, who knows exactly what people and situations are involved with admissions - take the sure thing...

Thanks a lot. Well, my main goal is to go to Florida because it's 15k cheaper and the rent is under 20k. I'm just so hesitant to go to San Marcos. The timing of all of this was so messed up that I actually started taking undergrad prereqs yesterday just in case. I think by November if all else failed I could have a 3.3 prereq. It's scary though. But what's scarier is San Marcos tuition. Brb, $93k. ?? Brb, $35 k rent? Umm. I just pissed my pants. I'm the biggest idiot for not checking Florida when applying. I just don't know if 3.3 will cut it if I don't get in Florida for January either. You do make a Valid point though. Checking my email every 20 min for the past 7 months has been a major pain. I'm already in , but the prospect of Florida being so much cheaper than San Marcos is very enticing

I went ahead and took the wait list. It hurts, but I know I'm saving money. I hope this will spare me the stress if going all the way there and then transferring. Hopefully they will see that I was already accepted today Marcos and accept me in st Augustine if there ever becomes a spot open. I doubt it though. With how annoying usas application is, it seems people who apply intend to go there. I know I do lol

I agree with your decision. Tuition is very scary at San Marcos. I was deciding which campus to check in my application and was wondering how you came up with your numbers for rent? Is San Marcos really that much more expensive? I figure the length of the program is around 31 months? I tried doing some research but figure you have more experience considering what you've gone through. Thanks

How do you know that St. Augustine campus will even accept your transfer from San Marcos? Not just for August, but even January. What if you not only have to wait another whole year, but have to redo the whole application process (and interviews if they do them-not familiar with this school) and then dont end up getting in at all. Not just bc the head of admissions may or may not recognize your name and deny you acceptance, but the competition for PT school is getting tougher and tougher every year So what if there are just, more qualified people (in their eyes) than you, and dont offer you admission at all. Did you ever think about that?? Thats why I would have gone with option #1- You got into a PT school, TAKE IT!! (plus you did say that people that apply to USAS dont normally turn down their acceptances)

I'm in the Fall 2012 class here at Saint Augustine, FL. It doesn't seem like anyone is going to drop out. Everyone is thrilled to be here and can't wait to get started. There is no chance that ten people are going to drop their spot and go to another school. It looks like you are stuck at San Marcos. Just forget about coming to Florida this fall or in January. You will get an equally good education, but will pay a bit more because of the location. If you're uneasy about the tuition, perhaps you should explore different careers, or reapply to in-state schools next year. However, the competition is only get tougher, and you will have to do additional work (take on a leadership role, obtain more hours) to make sure you get in next year. Not only that, but waiting one more year to enter the work force will cost you $60-$80k.

My saying that about the head if admissions recognizing my name is based in what he told me. If I hadn't talked to him in the phone, I would have taken my rightful spot in San Marcos. He is the one that led me to believe he greatly frowned upon what I was doing. I took the fairest way I could. You are definitely right about it getting harder... Don't get me wrong, the decision hurts. If I would have stayed with San Marcos I would be secured in the spot, but I'd just be scared of tuition. I weighed out the options and the one I chose seemed to be the one that would ultimately get me where I need to Be. I am already retaking prereqs and will take 23 hours . I guess this is just life. The waiting and application process was excruciating , but not I'm ready and applying earlier .

What makes you think I should forget about January also?

I'm trying to dissuade you from withdrawing because I would hate to see you go through the application process again with no guarantee of being accepted. If you get accepted for the Jan. 2013 trimester in Florida, then I'll see you there!

I'm going to have to disagree with your decision, just from the viewpoint of the outside looking in. Dont get me wrong, Im not saying that your decision is definitely the wrong decision, bc who else knows everything that went into making your decision better than you. BUT, the one thing I will say is that idk how often you navigate this website but you will find multiple threads about ppl taking about not being admitted to any schools they applied to and that all they need is one school to give them a chance, and then they would jump all over it (no matter the cost, tuition, distance, etc.). You, on the other hand, have just done what most of those people would consider an astronomically mistake. You were admitted to a PT program (and from what I have read, a rather tedious and popular school) and decided to take a chance on a waitlist (and pray that you get in) and give up a guaranteed spot in a program. Yes, tuition might be more expensive, but i would almost guarantee you that any of those ppl that are dying to get into a PT prgm would jump at your PT spot, no matter the cost...I sure hope all those pros and cons you weighed really end up paying off for you in the end. But if not, I think you will look back and think "hmmm, maybe the tuition at San Marcos really isnt that bad now that I look at it).

If it makes you feel any better, I think you are being very smart about this, who wants to be in more debt than they have too. Here's my story, I applied to only 3 schools last year and only got into one, it would have been around 120g total, I didn't realize this until after receiving acceptance. I weighed my options very heavily. It was EXTREMELY hard to turn down an offer, but I had to try at least one more time to get into a cheaper/in-state school. So this past application cycle I applied to 3 schools again, 2 completely different and the same in state school. Guess what, I got in to the in state school! Waiting did pay off, I'll be paying back no more than half what I would have if I accepted my 1st offer...I would have really been kicking myself for that decision. Yes, it's going to be hard to get accepted again, but if you got accepted somewhere once chances are someone else will accept you. I had horrible GRE scores just fyi.

Trust me.... I think about that everyday. Actually, if I hadn't come to this site, I wouldn't hav found out what I know about tuition and why it's pointless to pay a lot. When I applied to San Marcos, i had just graduated undergrad and was very excited of the thought of living there. Hell, I love the place it's gorgeous. The school is too. I didn't even think about cost at all. If in January st Augustine would have interviewed me instead of wait listing me, I very well may have paid my deposit 🙂 ignorance is bliss and trust me, had I not come to this site, I would be packing to leave right now instead of taking the first undergrad physics. It blows ... For 7 months I checked my email , desperately wanting to get in USA... And I turned it down now... A completely opposite decision if I would have had the chance to be accepted earlier.

But, no matter which decision, I think I would be nervous and regretful. But yes you are right, I may very well hate mysef very soon. It was a hard road to get here and I do question my sanity in turning down a chance at a very nice school. It almost makes my stomach turn thinking about it.

That is an awesome story. I hope my USA application gets shuttled to january without me having to submit new materials. Congratulations on getting 🙂
