Hey guys,

What would you do in my situation.

I just saw my MCAT score and I can't believe how bad I did, I got a 12/8/10 (PS/VR/BS). I did so bad in verbal and I don't know if I have a chance anywhere. Would you guys rewrite the MCAT or would you keep this score?

Depends on where you're applying and your stats. A 30 is solid, though.

Also, do you know what schools would accept me with an 8 in verbal? Would that be in the MSAR?

Because in Canada, you pretty much need an 11 minimum :S

I would retake if I was trying to get into a Canadian medical school.

Do you think I would be able to get into American schools with this score as a Canadian applicant?
I doubt it. Even the American MD schools that do accept Canadians need Canadian applicants to have higher stats than their American counterparts. This is also partially because the schools that do accept Canadians are mostly top tier private MD schools who expect high stats from everyone.

Have you considered DO? Certain DO schools like Michigan State University have set out separate seats in their class that can only be filled by Canadians. You can find out which DO schools accept Canadians and apply there.

I had a 7 for MCAT. Applied to 6 or 7 schools total. It turned out fine.

I would only take it if you are sure that you can perform better in verbal and not drop in the other two sections. The way I would decide is by your results on the aamc practice tests (the most recent ones).

Wow, that's reassuring!

If you don't mind me asking, what schools did you apply to?
1 UC school (reject), 2 in top 15 (I matriculated into one of them, other declined interview), Utah (but I declined interview), 2 very low rank schools (one declined interview, one rejected me). I applied to 2-3 more schools but didn't complete secondaries.

I declined because my first interview was my dream school. I got a phone call 4 hours later, so I declined all other interviews and withdrew.

Good luck!

My total score was 15/7/11 (ps/VR/BS).

Really?!

The 8 in verbal really excludes me from all MD schools?
It has already been said. The majority of schools that take Canadian students are top tier schools. Not sure about separate schools other than Hawaii which will take 2-8 International students a year. I have a friend from Canada that had a 34 MCAT with an 11V and got rejected from all Canadian and American schools. He had to retake it and got a 38 overall with a 14V score and is going to a top tier school now (not sure where specifically).

Canadians are expected to excel. There are 74 MD schools that accept international applicants. These schools admit <10, sometimes 1-5. Therefore, We admit only the cream of the crop.
