what'd you do during your vacation time?

I have my vacation time very early in my rotation schedule and I'm not quite sure what to do with it.

considering (seriously) shadowing, research, or possibly a 2 week (out of 4) rotation if my school will allow this.

any suggestions?

Consider what your goals are and which specialty you intend to apply for.

Then, look at this years interview invites and see if research/shadowing/electives were a major factor in the equation. I know you probably got the speech from your dean telling you how important research is on your CV...

...but, if you're more the type to fly across the world and volunteer as a doc in some remote jungle, then by all means make it happen. You would definitely stand out from the boring "suits" interviewing with you during 4th year.
