what's a "gastric valve"?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
True i can't find it either. But from what i remember, there are 2 possibilities. It could either be the pyloric sphincter or gastropharyngeal junction (GE) - btwn the esophages and stomach. GE is not a valve so i assume it must be pyloric sphincter.

You're right there is nothing on it. The cardiac sphincter and the pyloric sphincter are the only two valves controlling the stomach. Since the cardiac sphincter is not a true valve then the gasrtic sphincter must be the pyloric sphincter.

cardiac sphincter, aka the Lower esophageal sphincter or the esophageal sphincter. No such thing as the Gastric valve. We have our GI test this Friday, so I hope not at least.

Well what is the question in the destroyer pertaining to it maybe we could help you out there? As others have said it could be either the cardiac sphincter or the pyloric sphincter both have gastric juices of the stomach involved going to either the esophagus or the intestine so they both would technically be considered gastric valves

Came across the same question today that OP did, I believe. It is not really relevant to list the question, because it just asks for the valve that controls small intestine contents from large intestine (ileocecal). However, gastric valve was an option. Was this just a random valve that was thrown in there? So, it doesn't exist?

Quite possibly a random "valve" thrown in there. Unless it is being used colloquially

Gastric refers to the stomach and valves prevent blood or other content from flowing backwards; however, gastric valve is not an anatomical structure. I think it's a made up random term.
