Whats a good source to read for Pediatric Surgery?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'd say Principles of Pediatric Surgery or Ashcraft's Pediatric Surgery. Both more manageable, single volume texts.

If you're looking for the "definitive" source, probably Pediatric Surgery. But that's going to be overkill for anyone that isn't a pediatric surgery attending/fellow.

oh i should mention that im a pgy1 and this is my first rotation. so i was thinking of something lighter

Then I'd still say the first two I mentioned.

You aren't going to cover the whole book, you should cover the parts on basic perioperative care of infants/children, and the chapters on your high yield surgical diseases (diaphragmatic and inguinal hernias, esophageal atresia/trachoesophageal fistula, anorectal malformations/Hirschprung's, gastroschisis, biliary atresia, pyloric stenosis, NEC, meconium ileus).

As a sidenote, you'll quickly find that Schwartz/Sabiston/Greenfield are good books for a survey so that you get the must-know stuff for the Absite and don't look lost in conference/on the wards. But to really understand the disease processes, the surgical management of them, and the data behind all of it, you'll have to go elsewhere.

between Greenfield and Sabiston peds chapter which did you find more useful for a 1st yr level? greenfield is 200pgs and looks extremely detailed. Sabiston is 30pgs!! im finding it tempting to prefer the latter 🙂
