Seems to be a good school. I am curious to hear others thoughts, perspectives, and any insights into this school.

Stats hungry, but an otherwise good school (FL resident who has strong associations with MCOM). I've heard good and bad things from current students about their desire for high-MCAT applicants. They're also almost done with the new med school near teaching hospital in downtown Tampa which seems awesome! You'd get a great education there.

Clarification, not a new teaching hospital going up downtown, that actual medical school itself is moving from the undergrad campus about 25min south to a new building in downtown Tampa that's across the water from the main (already existing) teaching hospital, Tampa General.

I didn't go to med school there but in general I think it has several things going for it:
-Tampa/St Pete area is a nice place, Florida, beaches, weather, etc.... not a true urban "big city" so if you're looking for that NYC, San Fran, Chicago lifestyle then no
-New med school going up down town. Should be a nice facility, downtown close to the main hospital as well as other downtown activities.
-Continuing to grow the clinical research side of things to become more nationally competitive for research dollars
-Good clinical exposure with a 1000bed Level 1 trauma main teaching hospital, a large VA hospital as well as dedicated cancer center are all great sites.

I'll be starting there at the end of this month and am incredibly excited. It's a fantastic program and as people above have already stated, it's at a point of pivotal growth right now. The new medical building downtown near Tampa General looks incredible and is expected to bring in new research opportunities for translation into patient care. It was not my first choice but as a FL resident I have no doubt I'll be getting a quality education there for superb value

What are the bad things?
Mostly a more cutthroat environment with some students only caring about personal gain rather than collective gains. Since the ADCOMs are mostly focused on MCAT now, they may look over ECs/personality traits that comprise a holistic student. Especially since their focus on high MCAT applicants [517 MCAT on MSAR now as compared to about 510 in 2014] is relatively new. I wouldn't say these are "bad" problems, just a change in the culture around the medical school that the M3-M4s I have talked to have noticed in the newer classes.

I’ll echo the above. Tampa is insanely diverse.

Yea I don’t see T10 happening. I mean those handful of well established ivory tower names are going to be around for a while and aren’t going to change. A public state university isn’t really going to move up that far and break into that rank. But I DO see USF as being a solid all around choice compared to other public state Univ programs.
