What's it like to be a CRNA? Why do they get paid a lot?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Physicians being cattered to a managerial role means they will get LESS clinical experience than CRNAs. What objective authority would they have to step in on a tough case, then? The CRNA will likely be more competent to handle it.

Just because a nurse is better than me at putting ivs doesn't mean that they know better about when to put one in or take one out, never mind medical management of complex patients

haha, I signed up to mentor some pre-med people next month; I hope when they come into the OR they can tell me more about my field like that one pre-med here

I doubt people want to become physicians to supervise mid level practitioners. It's hard to give up that control over direct patient care and still be liable for someone else's mistakes. The business side of medicine is difficult to fathom as a pre med but there is no hesitation by administrators to pursue profit even if it means poorer quality of care. What is the cheapest model for now? Probably independent CRNA provided care. Surgeons can only threaten to take their business away if there is real competition between hospitals.
