Hello everyone.

I have a couple questions about starting on my pre-med classes.
I am currently going to a community college and taking some general classes.
Next term I plan on embarking on the pre-med journey at the Community college. The reason for the CC is because it's cheaper. I'll take all the classes I can take there(they don't offer all the med school pre-reqs.) and then transfer to a four-year university. I want to major in psychology. Would it be a good idea to start on my major that right away or should I put that off for a while? How should I take my pre-reqs.? How do I spread them out? I am completely new to this and as you can see I have no idea what I'm talking about so any input is highly appreciated. Thank you.

i'd transfer to a 4-year university now. med school pre-reqs taken at a community college may or may not be accepted at med schools. classes taken towards your major at a community college may or may not be accepted at a four-year university. you run the risk of not having anything you do at CC count towards med school or even your college major. re: prereqs, i'd recommend having all your prereqs done by the end of your 5th semester for purposes of the mcat, which most take spring of junior year. prereqs usually include gen chem I/II, bio I/II, organic chem I/II, and physics I/II; some schools require 2 semesters of english and fewer require a semester of calc or biochem. i wouldn't worry about the size of your college loans too too much, since they will probably pale in comparison to your med school loans (often over $200,000). hope this helps.

If I have my pre-reqs done by my junior year..does that mean I accomplisehd pre--med in 3 years instead of 4? or do i have to keep taking classes......Thank you and sorry for the ridiculously stupid question.

Please don't go around scaring people with statements that have no ground support.

OP: Don't worry, I have beaten this topic to death: Going to a CC does not hinder your chances on getting into med school. Unless, of course, you do terribly on your academics.

I would take as many classes at a University as possible. Simply because you get a better education from a university. I am not speaking from a biased point of view. I am currently enrolled in both a University and a Community college. I'm taking my math courses at the CC simply because the math dept. at the university are....jerks to say the least... Currently, I have an A in Calculus 1 at the CC. I made a D in Precalc 1 at the University, retook it at the CC (made an A of course) and the prof. didn't even go over logarithms like we did at the University.

I would rather learn all the information from the prereqs to destroy the MCAT than make an A in the prereqs and not have all the information.

Yes it is cheaper, I love the tuition of a CC lol.
