Hi everybody
I am a FMG, did my five years pathology residency in my homeland and now I am a fellow in an elite cancer center in the US.
My question is as follow:
If I want to be eligible for US pathology boards in AP, what else is needed after that year?
Can I be waived for one year out of three taking in mind my five years residancy out of the states?
Can this one year of clinical fellowship in pathology be also counted out of the three needed for eligibility in AP?
I know its a matter of performance, a department that will accept me etc, but theoreticly: can I just do one more year in any residency program and (following of course the agreement and support of the program director) be eligible for borads?
The hospital I stay in have no residency program, just fellowship, so it gotta be elsewhere. Otherwise it might be easier...
What do you think?
Do you have any experience with similar situation?
Does any program director can maybe share his thoughts with me, even in private msg?
Thank you in advance!

Thanks
I read it but couldn't find details about an option to be waived for previous residency out of the states so I guess it's more a matter of an experience one might have.
After all, it's not the common route to do an outside residency, than fellowship in the states and than residency again...

To sit for the AP board exam, you have to complete 3 years of anatomic pathology residency. Prior to that, you have to take all 3 steps of the USMLE (licensing exam).

English proficiency is an optional factor?

Thanks

I actually know of several people who were trained elsewhere and were in practice then did fellowship here (essentially to get a foot in the door) followed by residency again to be eligible for the boards. You are required to do 3 years (minimum) at a US program to be board eligible by the ABP. As far as I know, there are no special exceptions to this rule. You would be hard pressed to find a program director who would be willing to give you 12 months credit for your fellowship, especially if he/she is not affiliated with the program you're currently in.

You can call the ABP offices to inquire. In general, the board eligibility depends on the residency program and what the program director "FEELS", totally unrelated to ABP, ACGME, and reality, even after 3 years of residency and meeting all the requirements.

Is there any way that the ABP certification can be revoked from pathologist who are irresponsible and liars?
