I'm just wondering why everyone seems to think that this class is so hard. I'm taking it in the fall and am a little worried because all of these people have mentioned that it's a lot of information and a lot of memorizing. However, I spoke to a family member that mentioned that his human physiology class was also difficult conceptually. A lot of people had already told me that biochem was hard, which it definitely was. I found biochemistry to be a lot of memorization with some application of chemistry concepts. So how difficult would human phys be compared to biochem?

I didn't think it was hard, but YMMV.

Also, wasn't there an identical thread about this? Word for word, too.

I think the hardest classes are ones with both a lot of memorization and a lot of understanding/applying concepts to problem solving (ie biochemistry). Physiology is one of these classes. Very cool class tho, kept me "inspired" to continue pursuing medicine as a premed

In my experience (which is, you know, helpful only if you go to my school, but whatevs) the class is easy. If you want to fully and thoroughly understand the kidney and repro system, it takes some work.
However, if you're comfortable just memorizing the small, disjointed bits that your prof expects you to get from those and regurgitating them on the exam, it's easy.

I prefer classes that focus more on theory and it's application rather than rote memorization. The conceptual portion of physiology was my favorite. Reciting every bone in the foot, while impressive, I found tedious.

So you like Physio and dislike Anatomy?

I can't say I dislike Anatomy, but the rote memorization is very tedious. Physio definitely makes Anatomy very very palatable for me. Knowing the structure of a kidney is kind of cool, but knowing what can go wrong with a kidney makes those structure stick in my mind, and that is pretty cool.

it's not hard. just approach it the same way you approach biochem

Thanks for all of the insight guys. I've been really worried about this and now there's going to be a new professor teaching the course.
I'm worried that this teacher might be really hard, especially if the material is supposed to be difficult. It sounds like it can be somewhat difficult,
but interesting.

What made learning about the renal system so hard?

Theres no point in me answers this because different teacher stress different things. My teacher liked to get cute when it came to the loop of henle or ADH release

The hardest thing about human phys for me in general was learning how processes work both temporally and spatially. My book had tons of drawings and diagrams which helped a lot, but it was still kind of hard to envision what exactly was going on. And the majority of the exam content is going to test how well you know the processes, so it's important to have them mastered.

Overall though phys was pretty easy at my school unfortunately, so there's likely things people taking phys at other schools had that I didn't which made their class hard
