What's the best pen you've ever used?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My favorite pens come from the breast center at a hospital in my area. They give them out at health fairs and stuff. The ink is black but the pen itself is white and pink with a breast cancer awareness theme and really nice pink gripper. They write very smoothly, last a really long time, are cute, and just fit my hand perfectly. Also they are free.

Black: Staedtler Archival Pens! Especially the 0.05 MM & 0.2 MM. 🙂
Color: Staedtler Triplus 0.3 MM FineLiners!

Rotring 600 is the pen I've used. The German version is the best. The balance is perfect. The 600 pencil is also great.

I have been a nurse for a long time. I routinely left the hospital with more pens than I brought in with me. This was not due to deliberate theft. Just, pens get left laying around, and I pick them up habitually. If a pen is on the floor, it is mine. Left on the pyxis /med dispense machine, mine. In the charting room with no obvious owner, mine.

I square up my karma by freely giving pens away to anyone in need. "Oh, you lost your pen? Here, take one of mine." I have reunited many pens with their proper owners in this way. But still, I have several little pen piles around my home. Even if I immediately stopped my pen redistributing ways, I expect that I will never need to buy a pen, ever, for the rest of my career.

Now, mechanical pencils. Those I have some preferences about. Give me my sharpwrite 0.7mm over any pen, anyday.

Normal notes - lots of writing = energel 0.7 = easy to write, little effort
Moderate amount of notes: TUL 0.5
Writing on handouts/notes/inbetween lines/in margins = HI-TEC-C 0.3 mm

I've tried a lot of different pens. What's ironic is that the more expensive ones seem to be terrible. I started using the Pentel WOW! ballpoint pens. They're cheap, too.

Would anyone recommend me a decent, smear-free, pen that is comfortable enough to write for 6-10 hours at a time?

I agree with Medgrant. The Pentel RSVP pens are the bomb (medium and fine). Have been using them since middle school.

After reading some of the posts I ordered a few Uniball signo 0.38s and Jetstream 0.5s. They're both easy to write with, but I dont like the color of the Jetstream pens as its not a dark enough "black" compared to the signo model. Also, the 0.38 signos write thicker than the 0.5 Jetstream pens.
