what's the best time to get your application out?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

i was under impression that the later you apply, the less likely you would be accepted.

you can find basic information on dental application process from your local college counselor. that being said, yes.

The earlier the better. As long as you get it e-submitted in June, July, or even August you will be fine. Remember that it takes AADSAS 2-4 weeks to verify your GPA once all your info is in, then AADSAS takes another 3-5 weeks to send it to schools, and finally another few weeks for the schools to get it. You are looking at the schools having your file about 1.5-2 months after you submit you application.

That said, the process is on a rolling admissions basis so the people that get their files in early and are competitive for that school will be invited for interview. And the same early people will be starting to get invitation after Dec. 1st. So the later you apply the less seats are available (since some slowly start to get filled) and hence your chances might dwindle as well.

But if you have great grades and DAT scores you might still get into the great schools, but you will be stressed out through the process. I met a UCLA dental student who applied in December and got the second to last interview date and was accepted. That is a rare case so try to be on top of the game and submit early. Start working on your personal statement now and start looking around for letters of rec (those things take a while to do).

Also, you never know if you will have problems with lost letters (damn AADSAS!) or extreme slow mailing, so to avoid stress apply early!

Good luck!

The earlier the better. And make sure everything that you need such as DAT scores, recommendation letters, transcripts, etc. are in early as well as the application itself~ You never know when/where your application will be delayed due to random reasons so it's good to be as early as possible.

Question for you, what do you need to get the merit scholarship at Tufts? Is it based only on GPA? or do they consider DAT scores, etc?

Thanks

If you want to get interviews before Dec1, id say even July and August is a tad late - shoot for may or the first week of june at the very latest. Remember, you might get invited for an interview early, but theres no guarantee that you be able to schedule a pre dec 1 interview. For example, i had my AADSAS submitted June 14th...i got 3 pre dec 1 interviews (temple, UDM, CU). Case and BU invited me in late august/september, but at Case when I called to book an interview they were full until Jan., and BU scheduled me for Feb.

So if u want those decision (hopefully acceptance!) letters in your mailbox on Dec.1, absolutely get your application done ASAP!
