I thought about calling but idk where to begin. Im not trying to get ahold of a secretary and obvy i want to talk to someone who actually knows what they are talking about. Is that possible over the phone for a specific school? If so what department should I call? would it be better to travel there and get an appt with someone? Thanks.

I would first e-mail schools first. Schools like Columbia usually reply within 24 hrs, even within a few hrs.

If that doesn't work, I would call the school admission office and ask. If the answer seems inappropriate, I would ask if there's anyone they could refer you to. I am not sure if there's any specific "department" per se that answers questions about their school's opinion on something. Admission office should suffice as far as I can see...

Depends what you are asking about, but just call. People are too afraid of calling and making CONTACT with the people who might have a hand in saying yes or no. Don't call daily but call and show your interest, who knows they might accept you over the phone haha

This is a good question. I have emailed and called some schools. What happens is that most schools have an answering machine say that admissions is very busy and please check their website before speaking to the receptionist...

Given that, I preface my question with 2 points (for both emails and phone calls): 1. That I couldn't find the answer to my question on their website. 2. Can they tell me where I can find my answer or WHO I should ask?

This way I don't get the secretary's uninformed hunch about a super important matter, or wrongfully criticized for "not checking their website" even tough I did.

Funny thing, D.O. schools seem more than happy to help. M.D. schools do this... Maybe M.D. schools get more applicants. IDK.
