Step I what's the diff between genetics/biochem/mol+cell bio?

so for the boards, the core class relating to bio that i've taken in biochem. FA, HY etc have a book for biochem. We also have a genetics course and cell bio was lumped w/ histo, though it was mostly histo. my question is for the boards, people mention that u also need to know mol bio. Does the Biochem section of FA have mol bio, since i'm not exactly sure what it is in terms of how diff it is from biochem (all the bio content seems like the same stuff). thnx.

There is plenty of overlap, I think that they are disciplines which have significantly merged. The way I think of it is that molecular biology is focused a bit more on cellular processes and signal transduction, such as transcriptional regulation. Medical biochemistry is focused on structure and enzyme pathways, such as those involved in metabolism. Traditional biochemistry studies are often quantitative and in vitro, while molecular biology studies often have a cellular component (ie tranfection into a cell line or testing a knockout mouse). A biochemist might study the receptor affinity of a protein, while a molecular biologist might study the protein's localization within the cell.
