Ok so I am on pharm now and have been reading alot and in the CNS stimulant drugs it was talking about amphetamine v. phentermine and the only difference is an ethyl substitution on the alpha carbon v. a methyl in amphetamine. Now why would this one carbon in this location make such a difference in the effect? I could see if the substituent was on the ring or on another carbon etc. any pharm experts could help that woudl be great!
