More specifically, an unexcepted one. Something like this:

A,A,B+,A-,A,A,A-,B+,A,A,C-,A-,B+,A

That C- just pops out at you doesn't it? But the rest of the grades are otherwise pretty good.

"My god, what a terrible, sad person. This person is a failure as a student and as a human being. To allow such a person to exist in this society is a crime against humanity. Jeeves, please bring me vinegar so that I may gargle it and wash the taint of this person's existence off of my tongue and not discuss it any further"

Actually, if your overall GPA is fine then they won't care.

Probably depends on the class - a C- in Ochem surrounded by high grades in Ecology, Earth Science and Evolution may raise some eyebrows that you're hiding/padding weak science ability. But in the end worst case you'll be asked about it at interviews.

We write "reject" on the app form, and move on to more qualified, defect-free candidates.
I find your response a bit strange considering that, in the past, you've stated 1 or 2 C's "will not kill an application." Care to clarify?

You couldnt detect the sarcasm? lol

Ecology is considered a padding class?

Shoot. I took a graduate level ecology course this year because it was the only elective available that fit into my major, and it was chock full of calculus, derivations, and a lot of really rigorous stuff, like endocrinology and neurology.

I didn't know that kind of thing would be seen as filler fluff!

Varies by school of course. But yeah compared to most upper levels in chem, physics, biochem, neuro, math...eco and evo are notoriously easier

The lower it is, the more likely they'll ask about it, and the chance is nearly 100% for an F (especially since that introduces the possibility of a non-IA penalty for cheating). But overall, the GPA is what they go by - many candidates just have a hard time in a class, but in the context of an overall excellent academic record, they won't worry about admitting you (unless it's a prereq that you didn't retake or go above).

The C was in a UD psychology class about how memories are stored and retrieved. I did bad because I commute to school and I missed half of the final cause my car got stolen

A LOT OF LIFE SCIENCES PPL DONT UNDERSTAND THAT ECOLOGY at its core can be very mathematically rigorous. I would know given that my bf is an environmental guy haha

caps are by accident, too lazy to rewrite

Did you speak to your professor about that? All the ones at my school would be lenient enough to give a makeup.

Yeah pretty sure most syllabi/school policies allow you to miss exams without punishment, if it is due to something like sudden severe sickness, car accident, etc. I imagine car being stolen counts?

lol where do you guy, must be a great school. Where I am at, even if you bubble in the right answer and the machine detects otherwise: too sad too bad. Though we did have one professor who allowed a premed to take exam after the student came in late (I never end up with those professors in sciences).

He goes to some liberal arts place
Your school is the exception then. That's bull****

I got an F in Philosophy of Self. My GPA is 3.5
How bad would that look? :/

I think the B's and A-'s also pop out and make you look pretty bad.

Quoted wrong person, disregard lol

I know someone who did very well in undergrad but had a few Cs in calculus but still a ~3.7 gpa with a 35+ MCAT, their interview just chuckled and said "not a big fan of math I guess."

I think I saw this happen once on a Saturday final. The professor let all the students come in whenever they wanted within a 2.5 hour period (it was supposed to be a 2 hour exam but because of train schedules to go home were varied by students who emailed him, he was nice enough to give us a time frame on when we can take the exam). I remember it being a psych final that took most people an hour tops but it was nice of him to do so. Some people bought 3-4 suitcases so they can get on their train or take a ride to an airport after they completed the exam. I remember finishing within 20 minutes and reviewing the exam 3 times before handing it in at the 40 minute mark. Although I wasn't in a rush because my bus ride home wasn't until evening and the exam was around 1 to 3:30pm. I remember getting my exam score that night too I think so it was really convenient how that worked out.
