It seems like I'll finish UW several weeks before my exam.

I had a similar dilemma before Step 1... at that time, I saved about 600 UW questions for the end and did Kaplan questions in between, and then went back to UW for the last couple of weeks before the test. At the time, I thought that I might have been better off just doing UW a second time around.

How do people feel about Step 2? Is it better to go through UW a second time? Or is it better to use the extra time on a second Qbank?

I think its better to go through UWorld the second time through. This is especially true if you feel like your annotations were light or if you went through it the first time over a long timespan (ie 6 months). I've gone through Kaplan and although I don't think it's as good as UWorld, I think it's good for just having new questions to do until your exam (I feel like constantly doing questions keeps you on your A game) but every block or so there are 2-3 lolwtfok kindof questions where it seems like the question would be more suited for specialty boards type stuff.

If I were you, I would do UWorld again. If you find yourself realizing that every other question you can answer from recognition alone and don't have to really think about it--I would get Kaplan as well and try to do at least 1 block a day. Keep in mind this is just my approach 😛

Whatever you do just don't do Kaplan Q Bank. It will drive you crazy with wrong/outdated answers with crazy explanations.

For Example:
There is a a clear cut case of Acute Appendicitis with dehydration. Question asks for the next appropriate step in management.
The two relevant answer choices:

1. Emergent Appendectomy
2. Start I/V fluids and antibiotics.

Q Bank answer: Emergent appendectomy

Explanation(s):

Emergent appendectomy because Risk of perforation.

Start I/V fluids and antibiotics: While this is clearly required but it should not delay a trip to the OR ...........WTF?
