Hi Y'all

I apologize if this is discussed in some other thread just let me if I am violating anything. I am a cali CC student starting my second year so uh what do you guys think of this schedule?

Organic Chem 1 (lecture/lab) M-W
Calc 2 T-Thu
Film and Communication Thu
Government and Politics of US W
Maybe a pe class like Cycling

w/
16 hours of work as lab tech/ research assistant
4 hrs hospital volunteer
may pickup tutoring esl or peers?

Any tips to study/ time management ideas to handle this semester? I am just trying to strategize for this next semester since last two semesters I was always exhausted. I was just focusing on class work and did well but lecture really drained the heck outta me. Now I am picking up some EC's since my transition year is over lol and I wanna test myself but accomplish a lot aswell.

Best Regards

How far have you completed your IGETC?
What is 'Film and Comm' for? Does it satisfy the English req?

did english 1a and critical thinking for english req, just need english 1b to fill a humanities and english req for uc berk. Film fills up the art requirement.

Unless it's been specified on Assist.org (like Berk's College of Natural Resources), if you satisfied IGETC, then you dont have to fulfill the Berk's Eng req. separately. I've done one compo and one Critical thinking.
So you are taking that for Human&Art section on IGETC. That's good 🙂 I'd do Liberal Arts/GE req. during summer/winter. I've done them on regular semesters but it's not worth it to be honest. Just an opinion, because I'd suggest doing another science instead of those two GE's. You can do both during Winter/Summer (but might not be available). But I'd recommend taking them if you are applying this 17-18 year to transfer. Taking GE/Liberal Arts during Summer or Winter felt right because during your 15-16 weeks regular semester, the contents are stretched out and it feels so boring. It really depends on your professors, but mostly it was like that. If you can survive doing two sciences at once, do it! If you finished your other reqs, do something like Anatomy, Microbio, other Bios.

Not that hard honestly. Looks like a typical semester.

Just make sure that you have a scheduled study time that is only used for studying and you stay consistent. I would say 4-5 hours a day of studying would be plenty.

Your research/tech vs. actual school class hour ratio seems off. Are you getting paid for that many hours? I hope so because otherwise it seems like too much.

Pre-read the powerpoint or chapters before that specific lecture, and bring some coffee (black imo) and lectures will be smooth.

Your schedules easily doable, but we aren't all you so we don't know how you learn. Someone like @Dr.Cut.em.up may need 4-5 hours of study time a day blocked out, while other people like myself study one day every two weeks right before the exams and can do really well.

That is just in general. I know many people who say they never study as you said but are locked away in their rooms studying as we speak for next semester. I think only studying once every 14 days is a terrible idea. 4-5 hours a day is a lot to you. But mind you I was balancing athletics, MCAT, social life and I had pretty good success. Good for you and your study schedule.

I'm just saying each person has to learn their own limits and what they can handle. I take 18 hours a semester, volunteer 8 hours a week, work 16 hours a week, work in a lab 3 days a week, go to the gym 2 hours a day 6 days a week, and party/hangout with friends 3 days a week. Everyone just needs to know their own limits. I don't have to go to class and can study the day before and do good, maybe OP can do this maybe he can't but he's the only one who knows.

Wow, I want to be JUST like you. Maybe you should make your own brag thread.

:laugh: You're missing the point. The point is we can't tell him whether that is a doable schedule. For most people it is, but for some people that is a lot to handle. I only talk about what I do each week because you brought up what you do each week. OP can now see how different peoples schedules are and how each person handles it differently. If you become defensive to this then that's on you lol

I am mostly kidding. Just trying to be the typical keyboard warrior. However, I would not advise students to only study once every 14 days and not go to class. That is just my opinion though.

That where your right boyooo 👍. 13 odd dollars an hour so it works I guess, I would definitely not do that for free. As far as I know I will be doing basic grunt work for the first few months but then actually learn techniques as I remain longer. It's really like a paid training

I'll have to agree with you on that Dr.Cut.Em.up it's just not feasible to internalize info with a long burst of studying before a test. I like to take it nice and slow and actually feel like I know what's going on. I will definitely have a study time set aside, any time management tips for me? Optimist Prime your loco buddy but hey it works for yah so props

In terms of reading what do you usually do? Like deeply read word for word and highlight or what? What's your technique for getting the long paragraphs of say

Huh see thats what confuses me yaknow. Assist says 1A AND 1B but its not so clear about the other schools requirements and my counselors usually just wanna load me up with course per procedure. So what your saying is one can be a cheap skate and do igetc and not worry about the english? Btw how are you liking Berkeley? Been entertaining the option but I am kinda tired of being around the Bay Area as much as I love it. Idk lets see during app period lol

Just make a schedule and stick to it. It will eventually become habit.
