Hi there

I just received email from 2 schools I interviewed last week, and I really feel desperate because none of them has accepted me.
I got a rejection from OSU and Albany, and I was put on the wait list at Buffalo and Mercer.
I interviewed with LECOM last month, but I haven't hear anything from them and the other schools.
I wonder if it was because I have no pharmacy experience they didn't accept me because my stats seem to be ok (99% PCAT, 3.85 GPA, chemistry major).

Is there anyone in my situation?

I think I'm going to take a nap, hopefully I will feel better.

it is ok....different schools have different standards. Don't give up. I am pretty sure with your GPA and PCAT you will be fine. Wish you luck.

Your stats seem fine, and pretty much everyone gets rejected by albany. However, I hope you applied to more schools...chin up julia 😉

About Mercer, did your letter actually say "wait list" or did you get the "we're not ready to make a decision yet" letter? I got the "not ready" letter too. There's another thread about this, and someone actually asked Mercer about it. Apparently they have not started on a wait list yet. It's really just them putting your app aside until they make a decision later.

Eh, you could get militant like me, I know I've put my XBOX to good use over the last few days, nary a thing that can be blown up or beat down in any of my games hasn't or isn't. 😉 😀

Probably it would be better to focus in on something you can control, to make life easier.

Yeah, I got the same letter.
I thought that I was put on the wait list.
So is it better or worse?

That's what I am doing now, playing and finishing Silent Hill 4

It's better... 👍 though none of us is really sure why Mercer does this.

To be completely honest, I think you should sit back and evaluate how your interviews went. Since your stats are excellent, there must be something happening at the interviews that the schools don't care for. Are you not explaining youself well enough, do you come across as shy and reserved, do you have a hard time controlling your nerves such that it is very obvious you are nervous to be there?... things like that. I was wait listed at MCPHS and I think it was because it was my first interview, I was super nervous (and it was obvious), and I didn't explain some of my answers as well as I should have. Keep in mind that interviews are your time to shine and sell yourself! How you present yourself to the interviewers can make or break you. Now, I'm not saying this is even your problem, I just know that's what happened with me and I knew I didn't put my best foot forward. Once you recognize your strengths and weaknesses you'll be that much better the next time around. Just something to consider and think about. Also, just because you are on the wait list doesn't mean you still can't get in there!

Hi there, you stas is very fine, Not just Ok!!! Experience is recommended, but not required, but it will help if you do some volunteer work or a position in pharm field...And like someone mentioned before, maybe yr interview wan't go well as you expected??? Anyway, just keep waiting and keep yr hope up..I'm waitlist too and i know why, my interivew went fine but my Pcat's score is lower compare to accepted group..so I'm still waiting from Midwestern...good luck to you.. :luck:

Your stats can't be any better, so it definately is not that.

However, this is a case that you should respond to us how your interviews went. It is important to remember that interviews are not merely a formality, it is as important as any other segment in the application process.

I dont know how your behavior was during the interview, but remember that the people interviewing you and everyone to Pharmacy School are aware that applicants will be nervous because there is a lot at stake.

Let me put it in another light. Instead of going for an interview to Pharmacy School, pretend like you are already a Pharmacist and you are asked questions by a patient at your store. How would you like for them to perceive you?

For interviews, it is imperative to practice well, but to not come off as being too prepared so that you are too versed. People want to see the human side of you too, and being void of emotion in responses would be a big turn off to me. I feel that many answers to questions are not right or wrong, it is how it can be presented. Also, some questions may go this way or that way, but if you can present both sides of the argument in your response, you are telling the committee that you not only can think on your feet, but are also able to empathize with people.

Lastly, don't be afraid to ask questions to the committee, even if you already know the answer to them. This shows them that you have given their school much consideration and that maybe (in a way) they will have to fight with another school to get you.

Good luck in the future.

Why dont u do some practice interviews? Congrats on maintaining such a high gpa though. I always tell people on these forums that Stats do get you the interview but interview is pretty important, thats how people stand out apart from their high GPA's! I have a suckey GPA (2.9... still have a year to improve though) but I always said my interview is whats going to get me into pharmacy school 🙂 Just stay positive though yo!

Is it possible that all your application materials were not submitted in time or got lost? Do you have a BS degree or have you only completed the pre-reqs? Also a lot of schools wait list everyone before they pick their class roster.

Best of luck, I hope you hear from someone soon!

I got accepted to Mercer and my stats are below. Your stats are better than mine, so it stands to reason the problem had to be in your interview. I have no pharmacy experience. I shadowed a couple times and had a few interviews, but that was it. I think my age (27), my 6 years Marine Corps experience and I am training to become a Kaplan PCAT instructor went a long way. Good luck!

Nothing's wrong with you. Just be confident. You'll get in.

I got the same Mercer letter and think I did pretty well during the interview, so I think Mercer is just weird when it comes to certain things. There's also another girl on here who got the letter and it seems she did pretty well in her interview too. So, I guess you never know. 🙁

I also think I did pretty good during the interview at Mercer, she seemed to enjoy every single word. So I don't think it was based on the interview itself, probably the dean of admission evaluated us from the very begining when we all had to introduce ourselves.

Remember the old saying "Don't count your eggs before they've hatched"? Well, you shouldn't toss them out before they start to smell either. Just wait for the final decisions to come in. With your stats you can get interviews almost anywhere. If for some reason you don't make it this round, you could practice your interview skills for next time around. 🙂

I am completely perplexed with this thread. How could any school be turning you down with those stats? I don't know if anyone asked you this question, and please don't take it the wrong way. Is English your first language?

Needless to say, don't give up hope. It's early in the game. Why don't you actually call the schools that have waitlisted you and just ask them why and what you can do to make your application stronger?

English is my second language since my parents moved to the US when I was 14. My native languages are French and Spanish.

wow your stats are amazing. they should make up for the lack of experience. if you're looking for reassurance, you definitely got it. im not sure how competitive the schools are (although i heard about albany!) im shocked they didnt accept you on the spot. how was the interviews? im sure you'll get into the next choice of school! GL 😀

I agree with Chris. Don't be afraid to ask the committee why you got rejected. You have a right to know.

Definatly nothing wrong with asking. It will only help if you have to apply again.
