What's your first choice this cycle?

Tufts.
I’ve always wanted to live in Boston as a student. I went to my state school for undergrad for a full-ride (also received couple hundred dollars every semester with my scholarship overload). To be honest, I hated going to my state school and I think it’s about time for me to get out of my home state and move to another state. My parents know that I hated my college so they already know that I will go somewhere else. They have been saving up for my dental school tuition and they are willing to pay upto 80k per year including housing and allowances when I start dental school. I would have to borrow the rest from the bank but it’s still better than 400k. I’m also looking into military dentistry right now.
However, if I do decide to go to my state school, my parents will pay for everything for me.

I know several dentists who have taken reputable 2 week CE on implant placement. Cost? Around $14,000-15,000. How about Invisalign? Align Tech will gladly train and certify you for less than $4000. Probably less.
Lastly ....I'm a firm believer that it is YOU .... not where you graduated ... that determines how successful you are after DS.

Such a great point! You can go to the cheaper school and go to renowned CE courses for so much less right after graduating and you'll probably learn a lot more about how things are actually being done! Cheaper school or more expensive school continuous education and learning outside of your institution is KEY.

YES i was absolutely amazed by the experience that even 3rd years have! Multiple implants and 2nd molar endo. Is it just me or was everyone just SO nice and warm!? I also liked the competency based graduation requirements, self evaluation grading, student faculty ratio, no need to seek out your own patients, and how they gave us so much time to really just explore the sim clinic and clinic and talk to whoever we wanted. I did not expect to like the program so much. I do not have an instate option and probably wont, but if I did get into this school it would be a top choice but I don't think I could choose it over Temple which offers almost the same opportunities at a lower cost and in a location that I prefer.
I applied last yr as an international student. I choose Temple over Midwestern AZ even though they have fancy stuff and clinical experience and they start out with composite instead of waxup. But I am glad I make a correct decision. Temple is much less expensive and the alumni network is strong.

Out of curiosity, is there anybody willing to mention a school they interviewed at that they were not a huge fan of and I suppose would put that school towards the bottom of their "list"? And if there is, what made you not want to attend said DS or put others above it?

I agree it seems like that to me from just interviewing. Glad you feel good about your choice! The alumni network really impressed me and it seems like they're involved with the school.

Yeah, I wasn't a super fan of Nova. But honestly, I would be happy going most places, I think its more so what you make of it.

I interviewed at 4 schools and would didn't really like Detroit Mercy all that much, don't get me wrong it seemed like a great program and if it were the only school to accept me id go in a heartbeat but the area around the school was pretty messed up imo and with their price tag I feel like they're better programs around.

I am not gonna say which school is my top choice. I feel that will jinx it lol. But I am gonna say this. Money means nothing to me.

You live your life having everything and one moment you lose it all.
Like the fire in Cali, or a hurricane in Florida or Texas Or you lose everything you had because of the sickness or political situation in your country.

Money is not an end goal for me, I only care about today.

I'd rather lose everything and not be in $400k debt at the same time tho

This way easier said than done!
You can't really know what it feels to lose everything and have to start over without anything.

But
anyway, we all have our own thoughts about the matter. There is no right or wrong answer here, you want to be a dentist and any dental school would allow you to achieve that dream; what's left is personal preference.

Put your hands in the air if you think Dental school education is worth this much

Friends don't let friends go to NYU

Friends also support their friends' decisions even if they disagree with them.

Purple is my favorite color along with
blue ( I know this is not blue but turquoise; my favorite color is blue). This is a case of when correlation doesn't imply causation. Writing in purple does not mean NYU my top choice, but it is indeed one of my favorite schools, if I get some kind of scholarship, I might go there.

But I need to be clear about this, I am a late applicant:

My top choice right now is the school that acknowledges me and likes me enough to accept me
&
Money is not a factor in my choice.

It's funny how people keep talking about how expensive NYU and they don't mention tuition when they talk about UPenn / Columbia / Touro / Boston / midwestern / tufts .. the list could go on ..

Those schools come up a lot especially upenn and Midwestern but none of them compare to the amount of ppl applying and attending NYU which is also the most expensive out of them.

It's just reading through SDN gives the idea that NYU ONLY is ridiculously expensive and this might actually affect someone's decision. I personally know people who were about to drop their seats at NYU despite not getting accepted into any other school.

The arrogance, the terrible, terrible arrogance! Now I know that my fellow Floridians are gonna jump out and say "they have the right to be," and well, they really don't. They were rude in some way to almost every single interviewee I spoke to, we weren't allowed to ask questions during the interview, and the info session was a jeopardy game where the interviewees were the ones answering questions about the school. Maybe I'm nitpicking because I got such a weird vibe from them. Completely impartially though, the building is old and very much outdated. For a lot of the parts of the school it felt like you were in a dungeon.
The interview portion I think they should change their current approach of intimidating the interviewees and having people in the room who look uninterested and roll their eyes at your answers. To a certain extent I think it’s a little disrespectful and it’s the only school where I experienced this. Other than that, I really liked the program and the cost $$

Absolutely agree. While my interview went well and they were all pleasant, just stern, I find it funny that previous friends who interviewed, the faculty, and the tour guides emphasized how much worse the interviews use to be. So at least we caught them on the upswing?
The cost is a huge factor for me though. It puts you at such a major advantage for your future.

True. The cost makes it one of my top choices. And omg if before the interviews were worse they must have been so stressful

Why would they treat people like this? Why not just be humble and nice. I don't get this at all.

Now that my interviews are over and Dec 3rd is coming, I'm looking back at the schools I've visited and hot damn I've got such a hard-on for Maryland. Anyone else?!

What can I say? I like to live on the edge. The fear of getting stabbed will keep life interesting if they take me :xf:

Nobody will stab you if you cooperate! If someone wants your wallet or your shoes, give them a huge smile and thank them! Offer also, the cash money you have in your pockets. :luck:

Insure everything you own, even your food! and make copies of everything on your laptop and your iphone on icloud.

Rule number 1:
Avoid eye-contact!
Rule number 2: Don't be a hero!
Rule number 3: Always wear scrubs or the white thingy that doctors wear, as they are kinda respected there.
This is optional but:

Rule number 4: Don't leave any crappy thing on your iphone that could get you in trouble when it gets stolen.

On a second note:

Did you get to see their famous aquarium there!
