Hi everyone,

I value your opinions and suggestions greatly (and from what I've read, most of you know quite a bit!), so I would love to hear what you guys think about:

1) UW Madison
2) Wake Forest
3) Saint Louis
4) MCW

I'd love to hear anything -- about the schools' environment, students, curriculum, facilities, faculty, ETC... anything!

I loved MCW when I interviewed there. All of the facilites seemed very modern/clean. The place just LOOKED impressive. The students that I met were all very friendly and seemed to be happy with the school. Exams are blocked together, so that can be a good thing or a bad thing. For me, it's not something that I would prefer (I'd rather have a test in a different subject every week than have a designated week for all exams), but I think that it's not a terribly important factor in selecting a medical school. The surrounding area is nice, and housing is very cheap (at least compared to Los Angeles). It seemed like a cool place to be! 🙂

Some of the info you can get directly from MSAR and the school website.....

Reputation wise: UW > Wake Forest > SL=MCW (it is just my opinion)

Thanks! I've already visited their websites to get information. . . I'm just curious to know what YOU guys think based on interview/personal experiences or hearsay! Every school sounds seemingly great on their website... Just want to know what SDNers think!

Thank you for your opinion! 😉

They've been really nice so far about working with me on interview dates and other information. I'm looking forward to visiting the place... I'll let you know what I think. 🙂

I've interviewed at UW, MCW and SLU, can't tell you about Wake at all.

I really liked both UW and MCW. Love both areas, Madison is fun and MCW is in a nice suburb of Milwaukee. Good schools, Madison has the better reputation but MCW had a warmer/nicer feel and a more appealing test system. Both facilities are great, madison's is brand new where MCW is 5 years old, so the technology (wireless) is a little newer. SLU was nice EXCEPT that its has a poor location in Saint Louis and costs a ton. The facilities were only OK. It had a nice feel otherwise though and while not a name school it still does have a decent reputation and matches fairly well.
My choice would go as UW>MCW>>>SLU

Thanks! I've got interviews at UW, MCW, SLU, & Wake all coming up, so I'm trying to do my research and gather opinions. I've heard nothing but wonderful things about each school EXCEPT Saint Louis. Have you read the thread, or rather direct warning about SLU, started by an SLU med student? That scared me quite a bit, but I guess I'll find out when I go there for the interview.

May I ask if there was anything in particular you did to prepare for your interviews? I'd appreciate any advice! 😉

Don't be worried about Wake Forest's interview, look over the questions in the interview feedback for the most recent interviews. You will have three interviews each 15 minutes long and striclty 15 minutes. You will be interviewed by both MDs and PhDs. By the way, if you don't mind me asking, are you coming to NC from some other state. Are you flying or driving?

Do you happen to know the thread for the SLU med student scare?

The thread is called, "If applying or even considering St. Louis Univ. School of Med, you MUST read this"... I just did a search to find it... I'm new to this place, and I don't know how to post links to threads... 😕

I'm a student at MCW and I don't think our reputation is quite the same as SLU, just based on what I've heard.

I could post all day long about what I love about school here, but no one wants to read that novel. If you have specific questions about MCW, feel free to PM me!

I some friends who are residents (ER, Anathesia, and IM) and did a lot of consulting with them on where to apply. They mentioned that UW has a fantastic rep right now. Apparently they're just producing great docs. A school respected by practicing docs and recent grads is a good thing
