If you don't get into pharmacy school for 2006, or in your first choice pharmacy school, what is your backup plan? Go to your next school on the list? Try again next year? Get a new career?

I keep joking (but maybe some truth to it) that I am moving to Mexico and living on the beach. Maybe I'll play my trombone in a salsa band and watch the sun set every night.

Just curious what you'll do if "What If?" becomes reality.

Chris

I'll probably quit my job and forget about pharmacy school and change my name to Boxcar Willie and ride the rails. Honestly, I'll keep trying until I get in or consider PA school. I hate the IT field.

I joke about it, but believe it or not I have not come up with a definitive "plan B". Aside from trying again next year, I have enough to worry about without acknowledging that the goal at the end of the path I'm on might never come to fruition. This is highly uncharacteristic of me but I figure that at this point in the game I have everything to lose and shelling out lots of time on planning on not getting into pharmacy school is highly anti-climactic, if that makes any sense.

So basically I'm running on sheer optimism. I've run on pessimism for too many years. It gets harder and harder for me to acknowledge that there is that remote possibility out there...

...or you could just call it denial. I try not to let doubt rule me anymore.

In any case, I do know that I'll keep trying. How I'll move forward, I don't know, but I suspect that I'd stop, breathe, collect myself, then press on according to how the situation dictates.

I'll probably get a job (hopefully with Coca-Cola) and apply again next year. If I still don't get in--I'm going to move to NY and enroll in FIT. 🙂

Plan B?

Say it with me..."would you like fries with that?"

😀

I'll probably get a part-time job, take spanish class and then re-apply.

I hear that. I worked in IT for 3 yrs before going back to school. I don't want to go back to the cube.

I will complete my bachelors and apply to more schools. If I never get into pharmacy, I think I would get a PhD and do research.

This question will almost always come up in your interviews. So it's very important that all applicants consider it in case it does get asked.

I would take more science classes to prepare myself, since most pharmacy schools do not required Antomy Physiology, Biochemistry

I'll join your band!

FIT... Fashion Institute of Technology? 😀

I'd probably get more experience in a pharmacy and take the PCAT again... at this point I think the PCAT is all that's holding me back. Though moving to Mexico sounds like a better idea. 😉

Well naturally I have a planned response for that question. Whether or not it would actually hold true is another matter...that's the point here.

Your dog is cute! Have I started a trend? hee hee

Yep, that's the one.

My plan B involves crying. Lots and lots of crying....

When I get done with that I guess I will try to get a little more experience with pharmacy, and get some letters of recommendation from more "powerful" people.

My GPA and PCAT are as good as they are going to get. So anything I do to improve myself will have to be extra-cirricular.

Haha thanks, I meant to use this pic a while back but forgot and I guess all you guys with the dog pics were a subtle reminder. Is yours really named Busta Brown? That's hilarious... 😀

Some people will cry, some will yell... me, I'm grabbing C4 and a Browning .50 cal sniper rifle and finding a very, very large tower. 😀 😀

Seriously, I would try to evaluate areas I lacked and would work to improve those areas. Having a house payment limits how crazy I can be, I can't just take off. So part of my plan is to work out either a renter or a way to sell it without being completely flipped on the backend.

Awesome! What instrument will you play? Coronas with lime, an endless beach, siestas in the afternoon, and a warm breeze...

... why am I putting myself through this again?

Just Kidding. 😉

yep you have. as soon as i saw the pic of your dog I thought why dont I put my dog on here. 🙂 lol

I'm going to keep trying and if I don't get in.. then I'm going to apply at the Ag Research Lab in Peoria, IL and re-take some classes.. but I am hoping that everything works out for the best. I just don't know how I am going to deal with the possible rejection... 😕 But I know others that have sucked it up and kept on trying.. That is my Plan B, C, and D. Try, try, try! I am going to be a pharmacist if I don't get accepted after 10 years of applying! But gosh, it's going to get pretty darn expensive! :scared:

In the movie "Kids Rock" or whatever the name is it (scratch** scratch** I forget), this dude said.. "those who can't do teach; those who can't teach, teach P.E." So I guess, my Plan B is to teach but since i'm not into sport I would rather teach art, math, or chemistry, than teach P.E.

But then, I have a VERY STRONG FEELING that I'll make it... SOMEHOW because my FORTUNE TELLER SAID SO! :luck:

Haha, that's from "School of Rock" with Jack Black. Cute movie! 😉

This whole thread is terrible. Plan B? None of you need plan B (unless you were "recreational" last night). You will all be in pharmacy school next year. Case closed.

👍

Alright, how much money do you want? SERIOUSLY! How much? Because I would really like to pay you to be the guy that follows me everywhere (except shower, bathroom, places with my boyfriend) and just keep saying.. "You will all be in pharmacy school next year. Case closed." I'd say 500-1000 times a day.

Yes that's his name 🙂 That's who Kanye West is talking about when he says "From what I heard she got a baby by Busta!" hee hee
Yours and megrx's doggies are adorable! PUPPY LOVE!

Well, pharmacy school is kinda expensive, and I do need some money to pay it off, so... :meanie:

😀

Naw but seriously, from what I've seen you say about your stats and experiences, I think you're in excellent shape. All you just need to do is practice some common interview questions and you'll be set.

Anyone who wants some help with some interview questions and whatnot can PM me -- I'm creating a list of questions and thinking of some basic approaches to answer them (or trying to at least). In any event, good luck to all. :luck:

Hi, I have a business degree and was always a little interested in IT field. You must have studied so much for it... anyhow, what aspects of it do you hate the most about it? I have a friend who's in IT also but he just hates his hours (graveyard). thanks.

LOL... I looooove Kanye! What an awesome name!!

It took us forever to think of Shelby (if you're a Smallville fan, he's the same breed as Clark's dog, whose name was originally Einstein, Clarkie, Krypto, and finally Shelby). Actually I'm more of a Tom Welling fan than a Smallville fan. 😍

Awww- I always wanted a horse named Shelby when I was little. Yeah, I can see why you'd call him Einstein (he looks so smart in those glasses!)
My physics teacher had a dog named Einstein- it was one of those chinese crested puffballs. They're skinny and speckled (black and white) with poofy white hair. That dog was sooo funny looking!

Isn't that what he's for to help with that whole you'll get into P-school... 😕 😕

Guitar or bass.

To make it more appropriate I think we should mix salsa with some lazy reggae. In that case I'll play bass.

Finish my bachelors in Chemistry and go to graduate school (If i can get into that 😛). If all else fails, my stage name will be Dirty Rice.

Yeah but  having a support team is a good thing too! The more the merrier! Feel free to join in...

If I don't get in, I'll utilize my superb mathematical skills and go into Chemical Engineering (most likely getting my Masters of Eng. and MBA). It kind of sucks how these two professions are on opposite sides of the spectrum though... because if I don't get into Pharm., then I'm a little screwed. Virtually none of the credits from Pre-Pharm are transferrable.

If I don't get in this year, I'll continue on and finish my BS in biology with a minor in chemistry next year. (If I can squeeze it in, I can take one physical chem course and end up with a BS/BA biology/chemistry.) I'd reapply for 2007, of course, but also start applying to graduate programs - something in biochemistry or toxicology, maybe.

If I can't get into pharmacy from the front end, I'll attack from the rear.

That sounds good to me. Let's make pharmacy school the plan B...
