If you intubated covid 19 patients?

Do you go home? Do you shower before you leave hospital? Especially if you have little ones? Any suggestions?

Seems like this thing will be here a little longer than anticipated.....

No Kids but the last 2-3 weeks I've been wiping down my work things at the end of the day and leaving what I can at the hospital...everything except beeper and badge(which which I leave in my car). If I need to bring a bag of other things to work it stays outside my front door with my shoes when I get home. Clothes go directly in the washer and I get in the shower. Wife also wipes down most commonly used surfaces, handles, appliances about once a day. Have a big crate where we put things from the outside world in for a few days if possible before touching (canned goods, packages (packaging opened outside and straight to the trash) and various other items that aren't needed immediately).

Clean scrubs into work, change into fresh ones at the start of the day, shoe covers and jackets. At the end of the day, clean all my stuff with wipes, change out of dirty scrubs, wash hands thoroughly, change into clean scrubs and gear goes into locker. When I get home I take clothes off in the garage and run straight to shower.

I never take scrubs home, clean or used - the hospital goes crazy about their scrubs. I haven't been big on shoe covers over my hospital-only Crocs, but that will change when I go back next week. I think my new norm though will be stripping in the garage and heading straight to the shower. If we had showers at work, I would do it there - clearly a bad oversight not having them at work.

I keep my work shoes at work. The only clothing I wear home that were worn in the OR are socks, t shirt, and underwear. I do lots of handwashing on the way out the door. Purell my hands and forearms upon getting in my car. When I get home my wife hides the kids until I can go take a hot shower.

Only bring essential items to work. I can use Apple Pay in the hospital cafeteria so I don't even bring my wallet. Keep phone in a zip lock specimen bag through out the day/change after cases. Wipe off phone, badge, and Apple Watch with oxyvir after leaving the OR each time. Wipe everything again before heading to the locker room to change. I have a shower in the basement and use that as soon as I get home and pu all the laundry directly into the washing machine.

So I am doing the strip down in the garage, shower right away, and wipe everything down. Is anyone wearing a mask around the house? Sleeping in a separate room? My concern is the few days where you might be asymptomatic. Should I be concerned about every time I sneeze or clear my throat? Should I avoid playing with the kids?

This whole thing sucks.

My kids are young and more likely to get mild illness so I am not really concerned about transmitting it to them. My fear is giving it to my wife but we don’t really have a way to avoid that short of me moving to a hotel.

My question exactly. Add snuggling with the wife!

It does suck. I wash hands well before changing out of scrubs and before leaving hospital. I shower when I get home and swap clothes out for clean ones (even though the others just got me to and from hospital).
Then, I live my life “normally” and have as much good family time as possible.
I am of the belief that this disease will infect everyone at some point, and that my kids should be fine if they get it. I worry mildly about my wife, and myself. However, if either of us die, we both would not want to do it alone in a hospital after completely avoiding the family for months.
My relationship with my wife is better than usual with the extra time at home and large scary threat in the world to take our minds off some of the little worries.

Two physicians household. Handwash and facewash at work. Drive home and down to basement to take off clothes and shoes followed by hand and facewash. Hotshower and brushing teeth subsequently. Then I can hug the little one and wifey.
Some suggest heating up the car on the drive home. I don't know how effective that would be

Yup. What alternative do we have?

None if you're intending to flatten the curve. But to avoid infecting your family? You have to go out grocery shopping and pick up Egg McMuffins, are you taking a shower after every venture outside and wiping down every single grape that you buy for the next year?? I get it, that's not the same as coming home from a job that puts you at higher risk of infection, but until we do have a vaccine or cure I wonder how much prophylaxis borders on paranoia...
