When all else fails... If you just have no idea on the question and it's time to punt... may as well point the ball in the right direction :idea:

First Aid has a small list of "guesses" because on practice banks like Qbank, they keep showing up as the right answers. These are also getting flogged mercilessly in my prep class.

Apologies if one of these lists already exists, but I didn't see it.

(feel free to add more!)

If it's about a STROKE, then guess middle cerebral artery

Fungal infection = Candida

Enzyme deficiency = G6PD

Jewish child = hexosamidinase A

African-American child = glutamine to valine, or low O2 concentration

pediatric neuropathy = basophilic stippling

father died & had the same symptoms = trinucleotide repeats

cytokine = IL-2

seizures = valproic acid

indwelling catheter = staph epidermus

knife wound, chest = T-10

knife wound, neck = Horner's syndrome

bar fight = epidural bleed

horse bite = fat necrosis

infant infection = strep B

homeless person infection = TB

infection in AIDS patient = pneumocystis carinii

infection, and you have no other clue = coagulase-positive

the meaning of life = the plateau phase

... er wait, forget that last one 😳

horse bite = fat necrosis? hmmm....would have missed that one.

Wasn't a horse bite when you pinched another kid with your knuckles? Using the PIPs, that is.

It always seems like horses are biting women on their breasts on tests... leading to fat necrosis.

Maybe this is related to a weird fetish that test writers have. I'm not sure and am not one to judge.
