When and Where to Write

I've been looking more and more into dentistry as a career choice recently, and I need some advice. I am thinking I would like to apply to American dental schools next year (so I would be looking at entering the class of 2015). When should I write my DAT?
My second concern- I am Canadian, however, I am not planning to apply to Canadian schools and thus do not want to write the Canadian DAT. Can one write the American DAT in Canada?
