I'm trying to figure out who can know, how should know, etc about applying to two specialties. Specifically when I meet with the dean for the deans letter, she he know about this? should he not know about this? is the deans letter generic - in other words does it not mention what specialty you want to go into?

Thanks in advanced for the advice🙂

by default, the deans office will know what you are doing, but other than that you don't have to tell anyone such as the department chair for either specialty. If you are applying to a very competitive residency and they see you have very little chance to get into the specialty they might ask you what your back up plans are. You can answer that you will feel it out until mid nov and see how many interviews you get and proceed from there. I doubt the less competitive specialty will ask you anything.
