Just wondering

Members don't see this ad.

Usually sept. They make slight changes on all their lists so people still buy their magazine but nobody takes it seriously (within reason). Do people really think that Columbia is better than Yale and Stanford (colleges)?

Similarly for med rankings, do people really think Duke and NYU are better than JHU, UCSF, and Stanford?

They change order within tiers so people don’t get bored and still wonder when the new lists will come out.

I've fallen victim 🤣 thx btw

My school 100% takes it seriously, and I was present during a board meeting wherein my Dean had action plans etc. related to the ranking changing negatively.
Maybe they were putting on a show for the big-name donors present, but that was my experience

The Deans use it as a proxy for the size of their d---s.

How much is a negative change though? I wonder if the deans at UCSF, JHU, Stanford lost sleep over Duke and NYU surpassing them in the USNWR or if they know that the editors change it slightly to keep things interesting.

I don’t wanna say any more because it would doxx me pretty easily

Easy to identify the school
Easy to identify the student who was in the meeting

I’m not ashamed of anything I post, it would be just my luck to get in trouble a week before match as an M4 though

Not sure if the med schools are the same, but as someone who receives the internal blast emails for a T10 undergrad, those ranking lists (including global) are regularly “announced” to us.

So whether or not the schools really value the rankings, it appears they believe their constituents do (which would be reason enough for the schools to place at least some value on them).
