Hey everyone, from what I've heard from people it seems like there's sort of a trend toward taking a year or more off before applying recently.....so I'm just curious but when did you apply/when are you planning on applying to med schools?

One year off, but only because I didn't get in last year as a junior.

I'm applying now, which is one year after I graduated. I needed the time to earn some cash and beef up my pathetic science GPA... If I could have, I would have applied right after I graduated. The thought of living at home to save money for one more year is killing me.

Planning on applying next year as senior since I decided on medicine pretty late in the game. I'm planning on graduating with 160 credits.

how do you feel in retrospect, I'm asking because I was thinking about applying next year but didn't know if it was better to play it safe and wait a year? what is your opinion?

Am definitely taking a year off by necessity, not by option. Who knows though.... well see what this year off brings.

after junior year, if all goes well

I'm applying now, and I graduated from college this past May. I took a year off because I HAD to, not by choice.

I feel like I should have waited till this year to apply for a couple reasons that may or may not apply to you. I've worked full-time for my entire undergrad and my 2 year research project was wrapping up last year so combined with school I really had no time to devote to apps. I honestly think I half-assed it and underestimated the competitive nature of getting in.

With that said, if you have the time and a good app ready to go, I'd say do it. Just get it in early (June) and get those secondaries going. And absolutely make sure you're doing a ton of stuff medically related during your app year just in case you don't get in. You don't want to be delayed 2 more years because you haven't made any changes.

alright thanks👍, I feel like it's a pretty tough decision and there's really no right answer you just gotta pick an option and go

Applied...a couple years back and was waitlisted and never got in. Took 3 years off and I'm back. I got to work in pharmaceuticals/clinical research/get a smp masters out of the way and now I'm back again. I dunno, I'm thinking what I've done has to be valuable.... maybe I'll see if McDonald's is hiring.
