You can take part one while in dental school. The only requirement is for your dean/registrar to sign an eligibility form stating that you are prepared to test on the subjects covered in part 1.

hey guys, thanks for the info and the links.

I'm asking for someone who's at a foreign school, so...

what exactly does this mean?:

"A dental student attending a non-accredited dental school can also be certified for examinations. However, the application is not signed by the dean. If the dental school is not accredited, certification must be on a form provided by the Joint Commission. The completed certification form must include the seal of the school and the signature of the dean or the registrar and must be submitted with the application."

what does he have to do? what is the Joint Commission? thanks.

The Joint Commission is the body within the ADA that administers the national board exams. You need to call them and ask for the certification form to be mailed to you. Get your dean to sign this form and then mail it to the Commission. Once they receive it, your application will be processed.
