Was it a childhood dream? Or something that came later?

If you knew this is what you wanted as a kid, was there any indication that you were going to become a doctor? For example: when I was little my parents bought me medical books for Christmas instead of the usual toys. (My request)

I remember it very vividly. Here I was curled up, warm, comfortable, and suddenly it happened. It was the most traumatic thing to have ever happened to me in my life. There was pressure all over my body, unbearable pressure. Next I was assaulted by a bright bright light, before someone slapped me on the ass. It pissed me off so much I screamed in rage, but then I saw something out of the corner of my eye. A doctor, holding me up while snipping my umbilical chord. His aura alone commanded respect and awe from me, and it was at that moment that I knew one day, I would be a doctor.

I'm sorry. We can't write your personal statement for you.

No no no.. This is actually just me asking. I didn't realize it sounds like a test question. WOW oops. I truly am curious

Senior year of UG.

Eh I kind of liked Biology in high school, then Chemistry, then AP Biology and Chemistry. I was a good student and figured medicine will be a good way to utilize my academic talents. I always tried to figure out what goes in my doctors' minds and how they arrived at conclusions whenever I had my appointments.
Wasn't the same with dentists, with dentists I just wanted to to get out of their office ASAP 😀
So basically there wasn't a point, it was and still is a gradual process of developing my interest and getting reassurance along the way.

When I realized I'll never become an MD at Goldman. Figured, this way I could still be an MD. 😀

When did both of you end up applying? I'm in the summer before my junior year of UG and decided to do medicine only a few months ago. I'm thinking I'll take a gap year, but I'm not sure yet

I just graduated and applying this cycle. I wanted to take a gap year for logistical reasons (take organic and MCAT prep) and to really make sure of my decision (lots of time in a hospital = right decision)

I'm a big fan (albeit a biased fan) of the gap year(s) model

Two years after I graduated. Probably could have done it with only one gap year if I wanted to.

It's not that big of an issue if you were a Biology major pursuing pre-requisite coursework already. If you happened to be volunteering extensively somewhere before this, that's even better

Thanks, both pretty much exactly how I feel. I want a gap year so I can take physics this year and do MCAT prep next year, and spend more time around hospitals/patients to be 100% sure it's what I want to do. Would avoid taking two years though if I can, like you eluded to @TheWeeIceMan

Ever since I took over Wayne Enterprises

but on a srs note 12 years ago.

Sometime in middle school. I either wanted to be a baseball player or a doctor. I realized I would be more succesful as the latter option after I whiffed at 95 mph fastballs and barely foul tipped 70 mph breaking balls in my senior year of high school.

Didn't have a major back then, was looking to just do 3 years worth of pre-reqs and then apply to pharmacy school. Luckily there's a ton of overlap between pharmacy pre-reqs and medicine pre-reqs

Ive wanted to be a physician since I was a early teenager. For a variety of dumb reasons I went into pharmacy instead and realized I still wanted medicine so much during the summer of my 1st year of actual pharmacy school.

Are you going to continue with pharm school, or will you try to get into med school?

I had always had an interest in medicine, and, according to my family, was born wanting to be a doctor. I deviated a bit along the way, and then seriously decided to pursue medicine when I was eighteen.

I was watching Monsters Inside Me on Animal Planet with a friend. This is not an exaggeration.

Actually most of my science inspiration came from watching animal planet and discovery health when I was little
