Just wondering a general time frame for the future (I have not applied yet), about when do applicants find out if they get into medical school ?? Assuming you apply ASAP and turn in the secondaries right away.

Thanks!

General time frame is from October after you submit your app all the way to the week before class starts in July (May to July are people getting in off of waitlists)

The general time frame depends on many many factors and isn't always easy to predict

Buckle up and make sure your vehicle is fully air-bag equipped.

And make sure you kill the MCAT with one stone.

Wow okay. So regular admissions you generally find out before May, and the waitlist people are on the fence right up until class starts? Also when do people find out if they get on the waiting list? That's only after the entire class fills, right? So won't be for awhile?

You can be waitlisted on October 15th also.

You can be waitlisted on October 15th also.

If you get wait listed that early does that mean the class is full that soon or just that they aren't sure about you but are still considering, so you get wait listed right away?

Thanks for help

The class is not full at that point.
You may still be accepted much later in the application cycle, though.

The earliest that an MD applicant (applying regular admission) will hear back is October 15th.

What about early decision? When do those usually come out, if a student is accepted? I'm assuming the latest that an ED acceptance would come would be October 15, before the regular admission acceptances start going out, but I'm not sure what the earliest might be.

EDP is quite variable. They can take as long as October 15 to make a decision, though.

Oh one more question, how long do med schools give you to officially tell them whether or not you chose to enroll there?

Many schools will give you a certain window within which you have to respond to their offer of admission (usually ~2 weeks). But you're allowed to hold onto multiple acceptances until April 30th - so "accepting" a school's offer of admission isn't binding or anything. After April 30th, you're only allowed to hold 1 acceptance - so you need to withdraw from any other schools you've been accepted to. You can stay on waitlists, though. In the event that you get accepted from a waitlist after April 30th, you just need to pick one school and withdraw from any others.

Could you go into more detail on the bolded? I'm not sure I understand how we have to respond within 2 weeks but also allowed to hold multiple acceptances until April 30th. Is there a good place you can direct me to read more about the process?
You can accept as many offers as you want before April 30, but that usually means paying a deposit of a few hundred dollars. After that, you can only hold one.

It really depends on the school. But in my experience, all the schools are doing is giving you an opportunity to withdraw if you know that you're no longer interested in attending that school. For example, I was accepted to a school back in November. I had to respond indicating that I either accepted or declined their offer of admission. But by accepting, I didn't commit to going to that school. I'm merely holding onto my spot. After April 30th, I have to either keep that spot and drop any other acceptances or withdraw from that school, if I've been accepted to another school that I'd rather attend.

Again, different schools may have different policies about whether you need to "respond" to an acceptance. But the bottom line is that you can hold multiple acceptances until April 30.

Yes. Good point about deposits. But this also varies by school. The school I've been accepted to didn't require a deposit to hold my spot but some schools do.

Got it, thanks! How do you know all these rules? Are they on AAMC or do you know from going through process?

I don't know the link off the top of my head but if you search for AAMC and "traffic rules" you'll find more info!

Lol, do you get deposit back?
