When do programs know who they got in the match?

The reason I ask is because I have a friend who got a survey from a program which basically said:

"Congrats on your match! Please tell us where you ranked us and the reasons for it."

This leads me to believe:

IF the program knew who they got and who they didn't - then they'd probably be sending the email survey ONLY to applicants who didn't match there.

IF the program didn't know who they got, they're probably just sending out the email survey to everyone on their rank list.

Thoughts?

Thanks fellas!

My understanding is that programs found out today who matched with them, but are forbidden from contacting those people until Match Day -- of course, there is no embargo on contacting folks who didn't match with you...

On the other hand, a simple survey tool that goes to everyone is probably permissable to send, even to people who matched with you...and it would seem to make sense that you would want as a rich a data set as possible for analysis of what people did and did not like about your interview day, or whatever.

This is a violation of the match agreement, and this program should be reported.

"Note: Any contact between programs and unmatched applicants (or their designees) prior to 12:00 noon eastern time Tuesday, March 18, 2008, is a violation of the Match Participation Agreement. Contact between programs and matched applicants prior to the general announcement of 2008 Match results at 1:00 pm eastern time Thursday, March 20, 2008, also is a violation of the Match Participation Agreement."

I think in the context above "contact" means discussion regarding potential employment as a resident physician. Not, "hey dude, you left your jacket in our office -- come pick it up at your convenience" or "here's a survey we're sending everyone who interviewed with us, we'd appreciate any responses." I was kidding earlier about forbidden and permitted contact and speculation regarding the significance of getting an anonymous e-mailed survey.

for the most part:

students find out today (monday) if they matched, but not where.
programs find out tomorrow (tuesday) if they filled, but not with whom.
scramble occurs between tuesday and wednesday.
programs find out/figure out everyone they're getting by some time on wednesday.
students find out specifically where they're going thursday.

Lighten up Rock. You matched and you're on the way to residency. No need to be be a snitch, especially if you're unsure there's been a rule violation. Besides, who knows which program did it....may be yours

It states any contact. Do so at your own risk...

I hope you didn't end up at my program...👎

I just think it's a good idea not to cross those who have the power to revoke your residency. I'd rather err on the side of caution than fill out some stupid survey that would not benefit me in any way.

Don't worry, I hate cold weather anyway...

The only way to truly cover your a*& is to relax, mind our own business, don't sweat things you have no control over, and savoir the next few months of freedom 😀

I received this survey request today in my email. I did not think anything of it but will probably wait to fill it out following match day.

Eek! I received a survey from my top choice, and was starting to worry... until I realize they sent it out BEFORE yesterday (late last week). So I guess that's moot, eh?

look all: from somone whose been there and done that, you can fill out the surveys after match day if you are worried (generally are sent out to all interviewed applicants).

pinnerdoc: your list is in, as is your top choice's. whatever happens, happens. cant change anything now. just go with the flow, enjoy match week (most schools hold alot of events) and be happy you matched (im sure some people didnt).

Good luck to all this week

PD's and the like are probably finding out at this very moment. The remainder of residents, etc. wait until tomorrow like the applicants. Good luck tomorrow everyone. Less than 24 hours left.

my PD said he found out today at 2pm. i think that's probably the same for all the other PDs.

I don't get what stops them from just giving us a little ring? 🙂

I asked them the same thing about how they keep such a huge secret-----> The fear of being banned from ERAS/Match for 5 years is apparently pretty motivating!

sure, but why should NRMP make such a silly rule! It's like they are going to punish them for ruining their pomp and circumstance!

Prob to keep crazy med students from calling all the programs they ranked to see if they got in. If they can call us we can call them. Prob best for all sides to not talk to one another till it's over and done with.

Logic does not fit my mental state at this time.

Wouldn't it be funny if the NRMP computers crashed overnight? Maybe some disgruntled scrambler will upload a virus and we won't know where we're going for another week :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

do programscall matched candidates today in the afternoon?

do programscall matched candidates today in the afternoon?

I think it's the places that didn't rank me that owe me an explanation. The place I matched at will be seeing plenty of me over the next few years.

Usually the PD will call sometime or maybe some email congrats to the new interns. Got a call the evening of match day from the PD while celebrating but I was sober enough to thank them, ha ha.😛
