This is probably the deadest board on this site so I kind of stick around and do what I can.
After calling many programs for dealines and such, I understand that it varies. Many start to look at applications in the early part of September when a lot of applications are uploaded through SF even though deadlines are later in the year with some being in the early part of OCt, NOv or DEC. Like I say, it varies.

The best thing to do is call individual programs that you are interested in for this info. Yes, it is tedious but what can you do? I recall one program telling me that they start looking at applications in late August.

Same thing goes for interviews. Some start giving them in OCT., some in NOV and so. So I would say sit tight at least until September arrives (the target CAS date isn't until end of August anyway) and call the programs that you are interested in to get their individual timelines. No two programs will be the same on their timelines.

Here was my experience last year. I submitted CAS in the middle of September. Most if not all the programs downloaded the application on September 22. I got official form letters from every program confirming that they have received the materials and any items that were missing (ie. the Dean's letter which was expected on Nov 1). They also indicated an approximate date on which I would receive notice of an interview decision (most indicated Nov 1). However, during the first week of October, many programs sent me their formal interview invitations in the mail. Several programs invited me for an interview over the phone so be prepared and have your calendar ready. You also might want to change that silly voice mail meesage and have more of a professional recorded greeting.

I would not worry if your application is not in by Sept 1. I was about 2 weeks past that deadline because I procrastinated on the personal statement. I had no problems initially scheduling my interview dates and basically had my choice. However, there were a few programs I tried to reshedule ((sometime in mid-november) so that I wouldn't have to fly into the same city 3 different times but got shut out because the slots were full.
My first 2 interviews were in late October, November and early december were the bulk of my interviews, and had a scattered few in Jan.

Hope that helps.

My guess, it'll start picking up once interviews are rolling and people have more to talk about.
