its getting late in the game
and ive got 12 schools which still havnt responded to me

including (nyu, tufts, uop, asdoh, usc, westernu, howard, liousville, iowa, maryland, UT houston, UT san antonio)

i had just wanted to know exactly how late in the game schools continue to hand out interviews, because im getting really depressed

My stats are
3.24 gpa, 20/20/21 DAT

ive seen other people with the same stats as me get in, so im just a little confused

You must have applied really late. Usually people with the same stats as you apply early and that is why they might have gotten in.

06/18/2010

Western is done giving out interviews. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news there. 🙁

at my interview at asdoh, they said that they will be interviewing until march, so you've still got some hope there! 🙂 but, i think the texas schools may be done.....not 100% sure, though....

Do you have community college credits?

louisville is done giving out interviews from what i've heard

Considering you applied early and you are from TX, to not have received an interview yet means something is wrong on your application. Maybe a bad LOR? did you fill out AADSAS incorrectly?

To be honest 3.24, 20/20/21 is nothing impressive, people who get in with those numbers usually have a very good story or is an URM. I would try and figure out what went wrong with your app and figure out what you can do to improve your chances next cycle, because the next cycle starts in 4 months!

the only thing i can think of that might be wrong with my app is one professor whos letter of rec im not so sure about, is there any way for me to check if it was bad lol?

for adsas, i had made a spelling mistake or some kind of other small error i remember, but i was given a chance to re edit my app after i had already submited, for some other reason (like a month later)

other than that i cant really think of anything that sticks out, people say my personal statement was pretty good,

hrm, if i ask to speak with schools i didint get into, they will prolly just tell me the generic "rasise your GPA" right? nothing more specific?
also, i applied to 20 schools total, not sure if that is a mark against me

also, i didint do academic update, bc i didint do so hot last sem, hope thats not a mark against me either lol

+1

3.2-3.3 and 20 DAT doesn't cut it anymore, i know from experience. if you don't get in this cycle, make sure you change something on your application. you won't do yourself any favors applying again this june with an identical application from this cycle. good luck!

yeah i think your GPA is too low- if you can do a post-bacc or something next year to improve your GPA that will help

I know UoP is done for sure, Louisville is also done, most of the texas schools have already finished up too. Most of the interviews going on now would be for wait list 😡.

ughhh
ok well i have another special circumstance - i was ******ed last semester, and compleltley goodfed up and got some bad grades which actually LOWERED my gpa instead of raising it - ill get all As this sem, but its only going to be a slight increase if anything

so should i still stay at my undergrad, or should i do masters?

First I would call the schools and ask them if they were done handing out interviews. That way you can know for sure what your chances are. If they are, try to find the weak spot in your application. Stat-wise it looks like your GPA might be the deterrent, but I would check that you have good ECs, good letters, and an all around solid application.

👍 @OP Your best bet is with the Texas schools and seeing as to how they are done interviewing, you should probably start considering your back-up. Like Maygyver said, your GPA is holding you down. So if you haven't graduated yet, don't. Postpone and keep boosting up your grades. Hopefully you've improved yourself a little between last cycle and the upcoming cycle. At the very least, you can take the DAT again in the summer. A 20 just isn't that high anymore. You said you are seeing people with similar stats get in. We have about the same GPA (3.23 for me) but my DAT is much higher than yours (23). I'm on my second cycle and got to interview with all the Texas schools somehow with my 3.23. So it isn't all about grades. Baylor explicitely complimented me on my EC's and Houston really liked my LOR's. All of those can be improved with time.

I don't know if this would be helpful at all but I always liked looking at this sheet when I was applying: http://opsa.tamu.edu/documents/Dentchart10.pdf

when you say check my letters, you mean ask the school?

ok thanks, i was hoping not to have to retake the DAT, but i might need to now good point

im a little worried though, what if i do worse?

I just mean make sure you have people writing letters that you think would be the best people to write them. Maybe the schools that didn't give you interviews could tell you what to improve as well.
