when do services hours start counting?

Hey guys,
I know I'm still in high school and this should be in the high school thing, but I'm starting college this fall. I'm planning on volunteering at my local hospital this summer prior to the my first semester of college. Could these hours count in the long run as community service or do hours start counting after you start in August?

Technically, you'll be volunteering after high school. Thus, your hours are good to go.
