Hey guys, I'm wondering when we could usually expect most waitlists at schools to start moving? I'm planning a trip abroad for about 3 weeks, and I'd prefer it not to be smack in the middle of the waitlist avalanche (at least, as of now, because I have no idea how my top choices are going to turn out), but it seems like it's anywhere between End of April - May? Does anyone have a more specific idea?

I know they will usually call for an acceptance...so it's not like my cell phone won't work (it'd just be really expensive), and the time difference will mean that most calls would usually be made during the night anyway. If I do have to play the waitlist game from abroad, what are the tools I need besides a phone connection and (probably internet connection?)?? Thanks 🙂

While some move a very small amount of students earlier, most of the movement happens in May or later. Enjoy your trip!

And does the process of accepting + holding the spot require a physical mailbox? Or can I do it all over the internet?

Will you have access to a printer? I had to print out something and mail it with a check. I did not have an actual mailbox when I was accepted.

Yes, I'll have printer access but it would be international mail

What I would do just in case was also tell all your medical schools that you are going abroad for a while. If someone accepts you, probably via email, I would either call them and say you are out of country and explain it might take a while to get the deposit in. I want to say it is 2 weeks early in the waitlist movement. Later goes to one week. You might have to mail something express international (or equivalent) if you are worried about something getting there.

Alternatively, do you have a family member who can mail for you? My husband, for example, has authorization to sign my name in emergencies. If I had been accepted when I was overseas, I would have forwarded the acceptance to him and asked him to fill it out (with payment) and mail it in.

beginning of next year you will see some movement
