Hello,

All my credit cards have a teeny tiny limit (don't ask!), and I am planning to apply "broadly". So, would anyone happen to know if one can use multiple credit cards to make the payment come September 15th?

Thanks!

You probably can apply to 10 programs at a time. I know the initial payment was around $180 bucks for the first ten programs and score release charges.

Oh really? So, I don't actually have to pay for *all* the programs I am selecting in just one payment? That's good to know. Any disadvantages you could think of with this method of selecting 10 programs at a time and paying with different cards?

Thanks!

It will take you another 30 minutes or so. Otherwise, no.

Thank you both for solving this for me! Appreciate it.

Wait, payment has to be done immediately?

I was under the impression that they're invoiced and that you have until May 31st to pay or else ERAS won't let you participate in the match.

Even I had the exact same impression reading their website but since then someone had told me that the payment for the applications have to be done on September 15 or else they don't go out to the programs (until that is paid).

I would love for the above to be wrong and your impression (and my former one) to be right.

Wow, that blows. I was hoping to gradually pay off the fees over the next few months, especially given the money thats going to spent at the actual interviews.

You pay immediately at the time of application. You can always add more programs -- so the first 10 programs are $180 (or whatever the fee is), and you only apply to 2 programs. Later on if you want to add another 8 programs, it will be free. Bottom line is that it will cost the same whether you apply all at once, or add on programs as you go.

Thank you. But if I want to apply to 20 programs in two batches of 10 separately (separated by an hour), I can pay for 10 at a time right? (of course I understand the second 10 would cost me more than the first 10)

After the first 10 you pay for the additional programs individually

Sadly I'm planning on applying to something like 90 programs with another 60 or so TY/Prelim. Means I've got to find a card with $3,000 on it by the 15th.

What do you mean individually? I understand it is $26 after 30 programs, but how can one pay individually? Certainly one can't make 140 different transactions on one card! (In Ronin786's case of applying to 150 programs.)

Or many cards with a total spending limit of $3,000 as I gather from the early replies in this thread.

Oh yea it might be after 30 not 10. By individually I mean each program costs extra not the actual transactions.

Just pay with your debit card. I have a debit visa

Not everyone has $3000 in their bank account to drop on applications. Also, speaking personally, my bank has a limit how much I can do on my debit card in one day. I've never had to go above the limit, so I can't remember what it is, but it's a possibility.

It's $9 per program for programs 11-20, $15 per program for programs 21-30, and $26 per program for programs 31+. For future reference 🙂

And this only applies to programs in one specialty. So if you were applying for Neuro and a TY, then you'd pay separately for the Neuro programs and the TY programs.

Whoa... good luck, man! 😱
