Just curious. I work full-time for a hospital group and get paid every 2 weeks but do extra shifts for a couple of big groups and get paid monthly-about 3 weeks after you've done the shifts.

You don't get paid until almost the last day of the next month. Anyone else think this is ridiculous??? The amount of money these companies are making on interest alone must be nice.

If they had any other places to work extra shifts I would, but I would move before I worked full-time for these places.

How do other places work?

We have an insanely complicated pay structure for various reasons. We get paid on the 20th for our hours worked, shift differentials and holiday diferentials. We get paid on the 30th for our productivity bonuses. Both of these are for work done 2 months prior. We asked them to delay that long because it takes a while to accurately calculate everything.

If your getting paid only one or two months after the work was done your company is probably not makeing much interest on your money. Most medical billing works on a 90 days schedule so you might be getting paid before your group or company actually gets its money. Most strictly fee for service, eat what you kill, groups don't pay you until they collect. Many of these groups offer their new hires loans to get them through their first 3-6 months until the payments start rolling in.

When I started with my FFS group, I didn't get any paycheck for 3 months, until my collections started coming in. Even then, my first few chacks were pretty small. Over about 4-5 months, they started becoming more consistent. They still do vary quite a bit, sometimes by up to $10k or so from month to month....SO, I got to really make sure to plan my finances well...

I get my checks each month, usually around the 15th...Partners split up the bonus pool (money from pre-partners buy-in and NP/PA collections) yearly.

With my group (hourly rate with night differential), your hours are downloaded from Tangier on the first day of the following month and paychecks are dispersed the 4th or 5th business day. You can also get an advance draft based on your expected (scheduled) hours around the middle of the month you're currently working and the balance is paid with the other dispersments at the beginning of the following month.

:hijacked:Apologies to the OP but I've got a tangent to explore briefly. USC: We tried to use Tangier for scheduling and it bombed. We're just too complex in the scheduling area. 5 hospitals, 35+ docs some of whom don't work at every house, requests for days off, meetings, etc. I didn't know Tangier does payroll too. Does it work for you guys.

Sorry if I was unclear. The payroll department just downloads our hours worked from Tangier. They do all the calculations themselves.

We (generally) only have one hospital per group (within EMP) so I don't know how it would work for a multi-hospital group.

We are a 5 hospital group, but really only two hospitals have rotating docs (Georgetown and Washingotn Hospital Center).

We get paid on the 15th and 30th or 31st, we are all salaried so it doesn't make any difference.

And we use Tangier but as far as I know, no different in what everone makes (depending on year and seprate contract).

Q

Most of our contracts pay by the last day of the month but a couple pay on the 20th of the next month. It is nice because if I work a shift or two at one of the latter contracts I get a nice little "bonus" on the 20th!

We bonus quarterly and a larger profit sharing "clear the books" type bonus at the end of December.

We get paid every other week, 26 paychecks per year. They gave me the option to divide my contracted hours for the year and get paid the same amount each time. This has been great - like living on salary but with a year-end "bonus" if I exceed my hours.
