I am a first semester nursing student at Pitt who has decided that nursing is not for me. After spending some time with two different dentists, I've decided that. I'd like to pursue dentistry. When do I seriously begin clocking shadowing and volunteer hours? Does someone have to sign off on this?

Well, the more hours the better. If you have time, why not get a start? That way you can know for sure you enjoy it this early in your education.

AS SOON AS YOU CAN!!

More hours you have is better in shadowing and volunteering. But you don't have to be too excessive. It helps you to be recognized. Long hours in shadowing is not required but it will help you to get to know more about the dental professionals in your area and learn more about the dentistry.

Volunteering doesn't have to be dental related, I did anything that I can get hands on like hospital volunteering but ofcourse, dental volunteering is optimal.
