When do you usually study? Do you study during or between cases? or study at home? How many hours should i study per day?

There are those who read in the OR but this depends on the resident, case, program, etc.

Most anesthesia programs allow enough time to read s out of work. I think you should read at least 30 minutes a day. This is not scientific.

At home on most OR months, between patients/pages on PACU, Regional, OB, and preop clinic months, while on pump on Cardiac months, etc. It is not that hard to find time to study (this coming from a single guy with no family).

I used to study from my ipad in the OR but its just too distracting so I have abandoned it. I study hard only on Sundays. Otherwise maybe a hour or so the night before a case I have never done or a disease I have never encountered.

During the work day I just read small bits and pieces, especially when some weird reaction/event happens in the OR. I'll read about it the same day for curiosity's sake. Example: I had a very weird looking a-line tracing today so I read into it and now I know what a dilated cardiomyopathy tracing looks like.

Once you know the basics well which is by far the steepest part of the learning curve, try to focus on reading subjects relevant to your cases/rotation... Otherwise its a waste of time because it will never stick (eg. reading about cardiac bypass during an OB month).

Ohh and a dose of SDN from time to time... Its remarkable how much I have learned from this site alone.
