I still haven't heard from 20 programs. Anyone know when I should assume that those no response programs are rejections?

Maybe by the end of next week...that's what some programs say...

Usually January.

You should contact any place you haven't heard from that you're really interested in. A simple email or phone call can easily get you off of a waitlist, as it shows that you didn't just apply to meet a certain number of apps. Also, spots open up like wildfire in January, when people start cancelling dates left and right. You don't always get the date you want, and sometimes have to work on short notice, but it can definately be worth it.

Remember... once you're in the door, you're on a level playing field with EVERYONE else they interview. The invitation means you met their numbers criteria -- the interview is about personality matching. Good luck! 😀

i'd echo Scrubbs' comments - I've had some very helpful conversations w/ places I haven't heard from... either got an interview that day, got on a wait list, or found out that they were still sending out invites and/or have open dates.

Hi Kazu,

you should start calling the programs that haven't responded to you thus far. Some programs will reject you on the spot but others may offer you interviews. I had that experience in anesthesiology. They needed more information to complete my file.

All the best,

I agree totally. One program I contacted for interviews said they ONLY gave out spots to people who called: shows interest beyond a simple clicking off on an ERAS application. Contact the program administrator, and if that doesn't work, head straight to the PD. As long as you're polite and not overly aggressive, no one should fault you for being earnest on getting yourself an interview.

The program that allows you to see med student applications allows you to filter for all sorts of things, like FMGs. I am an FMG and I contacted several programs, who looked at my application at that time and granted me interviews.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease, baby.

I agree 100%. I figure that at this point the programs are pretty much all booked for the entire interview season. Every time I've contacted a program to switch interview dates they tell me that there are very few open dates.

So, if you haven't heard by now it either means that you are rejected or you are in a pile of applications that they may grant an interview to if people drop out at the last minute (a.k.a. wait listed). If you're in the pile of "wait-listed" applications, then you can catapult your application to the top with a phone call/e-mail expressing interest... it can't hurt you as long as you don't call every day and annoy them.

Bellevue.... GIVE ME SOME LOVE!!!!

so.......I finally broke down and emailed several programs that I haven't heard from but would have liked to interview. I just asked the status of my application and let them know how much I wanted to interview with their program. In the last 24 hrs, have received FOUR rejections, one email explaining they are still looking at apps, no interviews. It has been a lovely lovely day. I guess its better knowing they weren't planning on interviewing me at all and were just waiting around to notify me...but still!

Joaquin13... Sorry for the shi**y day! On a higher note for those of you waiting on programs-- I E-mailed Bellevue a couple days ago expressing my interested and the residency coordinator sent me a message back stating that my application will be promptly reviewed and I will be notified in a week or two. I figure this can't be bad.... I would rather them take a look at it then let it sit at the bottom of a stack on the PD's table collecting dust for the next 2 months.

Also... there are going to be lots of cancelations in jaunary, so if you haven't heard yet, there are opportunities ahead!!! Best of luck
