On my primary, I put down my permanent address as the state that my father lives in, whereas for my preferred address I used the state that my mom lives in and where I went to high school/am going to college. Was just wondering if you designate state of residency on the secondaries for schools, or if schools simply use what you listed as your permanent address. Was asking because I have read of people on here who applied with "two states of residency".

Hard to say. This is school/state dependent. Some look at where you went to high school and factor that in (Mass and TX i think do this). Others consider it where you’re an actual resident. You’d have to look at the requirements at the schools youre applying to.

1) each school will do so differently
2) public schools may have legal statute, formal regulations, school policy, or informal consideration.
3) state residency criteria for admission may be different than what is required for tuition
4) former connection to the state may be sufficient for residency for admission
5) public schools look at residency as a factor of highest importance where private schools considered it of low importance.
6) it is up to applicant to make their "case" for connection to the state either on secondary or in other communication

Legal Residence
The medical school(s) you apply to may be interested in your state and/or county of legal residence
for consideration as part of the application review process. Each state has its own qualifications for
determining legal residency; medical schools may request additional documentation. You are responsible
for researching and understanding a state’s qualifications for legal residency before claiming it as your
state of legal residence in your AMCAS application. It may be possible to qualify for multiple states
of legal residency, but you may select only one in the AMCAS application.

Thanks for the help. As a dependent, I am sure that each of my parent's have the necessary property, taxes, vehicle registration, license, etc for me to be a resident for either state. My main question is where exactly do you mark that you are "in-state" for each school that you are applying to. For example, Is it a yes or no question at the top of each secondary?
